★Black Rain (ブラックレイン Burakku rein) is a Dark Magic scroll that only appears in TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. The personal spell of the malevolent Dark Dragon Gerxel, ★Black Rain is only activated on the twentieth turn of Map 40, whereupon it will wipe out the existence of every single unit, both ally and foe alike, on the battlefield. Gerxel deliberately spares Tia from the ruinous effects of the spell, intending to gloat at her subsequent despair before absorbing her life energy and regaining the full extent of his heinous powers.

It could be seen as the dark magic counterpart of ☆Aura Rain.

EtymologyEdit

The effect of this spell is a reference to the atomic bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II, where the rain that subsequently fell to the earth was reported to be a deep shade of sombre black. This came about as a result of the explosions releasing some 200 different kinds of radioactive isotopes into the atmosphere, which thereafter mixed with water droplets in the clouds and cascaded to the earth as dark mass of radioactive rainwater. The toxic rainwater was then fatally ingested by means of breathing and the consumption of contaminated food and water, leading to radiation poisoning that contributed significantly to the total death toll of more than 246,000 innocent civilians. In the context of the game, the name of the spell is an apt one, as it reigns death and destruction upon all characters who unwittingly come into contact with its effects.
