“First of all I have to return to Mars Temple. I need to apologize to Sylpheeze. If she won’t forgive me for not returning earlier, then so be it.”
—Alfred, in a conversation with Mel and Alicia
Alfred (アフリード Afurīdo) is a playable character from TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. He is the long-lost father of Mel and Maruju, the husband of Sylpheeze, and the son-in-law of Eisenbaha. He is also a powerful mage known as the Flash of Leda. One of the Twelve Heroes, he fought in the Leda Liberation War.
Years before the game's events, Alfred entered a battle against Kranion, in which he was believed to have died. This story is often told by wandering minstrels across Lieberia. In truth, he actually survived the battle, but was later found wounded by a mage named Nina. Nina brought him to her home to take care of him, and it is at that time that he first met her daughter, Alicia, whom he became a father figure towards. During the next 13 years, he recovered from his severe wounds that had left him bedridden.
After Nina's untimely death, which caused him and Alicia to separate, Alfred joined the Leda Alliance Army and began fighting alongside his commanders, Richard and Tia. In Map 21, he comes to the aid of Holmes's army alongside Richard, Tia, Sennet, Neyfa, Temsin, Katrina, Reshe, Verna, and Silva. If Alicia speaks to him during this chapter, he will give her ☆Sylpheed.
During the final battle, he uses his magic to teleport Richard to the altar of Gerxel so that he can rescue Tia. Once Richard is slain by Gwenchaos, Alfred joins the fight and aids Runan, Holmes, Sennet, and Tia in their battle against Gerxel.
In the epilogue, Alfred reunites with Mel, who asks him for the reason why he was not there for her, and he replies by telling her that he cannot explain it yet. Later, he returns to the Temple of Mars and reunites with Sylpheeze, who soon forgives him for his many years of disappearance.
Alfred joins in the final chapter, and as such, is not much of a playable character. His stats are decent, but likely not better than any of your Mages that you would have trained and promoted into a Sage. His Luck is notably bad. He is the only other character besides Sierra who has the Warp skill, which will make him useful in the final chapter. He appears with a Door Key, which is needed to proceed though the finale (although Sierra can also be used to assist with this).
