Armads, also known as the Thunder Axe, is very powerful among the Legendary Weapons of Elibe, and increases the user's Defense by 5. The original wielder of the axe was Durban, a Berserker from the Western Isles who took the name of Armads as his own. When Hector attempts to claim the axe, Durban warns him that he will not die "...peacefully, but in battle" to which Hector replies that he would go to any length for his friend.
Twenty years later, as depicted in Fire Emblem: Binding Blade, this is proven to be true, as Hector (now the head of the Lycian League) is ultimately killed by wounds inflicted by King Zephiel when he ambushes the Lycian army at Araphen. Hector did not, however, have Armads with him at the time, having returned it to the Western Isles some two decades previously. Subsequent to this, Roy's army can recover it from its resting place in the isles, and any unit with S-level proficiency in axes can wield it; needless to say, it is never specified if any of the wielders die violently. However, it would not have mattered because none but Lord Hector harnessed Durban's (Armads') fullest and most terrible power.
Hector obtains Armads by talking to Durban. But, with fear of using it, he gives it to Athos. Athos then returns the Axe to him in the last chapter of Rekka no Ken.
When equipped by Hector, it displays unique attack and critical attack animations which seem to reflect on its unusual size and weight; a unique song, called Blessing of the Eight Generals, also plays.
If Hector has not yet been promoted when he equips Armads (which can only be done in Eliwood's mode), he is not given an alternate attacking animation.
In Awakening. Armads' appearance is akin to a scythe.
The name Armads comes from Almace, the legendary sword of Archbishop Turpin, one of Charlemagne's Twelve Peers. Durban is also an alteration of the name Turpin, making the pairing of Durban and Armads fit in nicely with the legend.
