“I'm a spy. I go on secret missions to gather information, steal things, check on people...that kind of thing”
—Astore in Chapter 8: The Reunion

Astore (アストール Asutōru, Astol in the fan translation) is a playable character in Fire Emblem: Binding Blade. He is a spy working for Ostia.

Story and PersonalityEdit

Astore met Hector for the first time when Astore tried to loot Castle Ostia. Astore was in the middle of stealing loot when Hector found him. Impressed by his skill, Hector hired him as a spy. He hastens back to the city upon news of Hector's death but is too late to stop a rebellion.

Some time before the events of the game, back when he was known as Gorlois, Astore was the husband of Igrene and had lived happily with her in Arcadia. However, his risky occupation as a spy forced him to abandon her years ago while repelling a bandit raid, as he did not wish to see her put through any danger on his account, thus "killing" the Gorlois identity. They also had a daughter; however, it can be assumed that Astore left before he could be made aware that Igrene was pregnant, as the child is never mentioned in any support conversations. In those, he is portrayed as an indirect war victim, having to abandon his wife to conceal her from the danger that comes from his work as a spy. Their daughter died early in her life.

After the war, he disappeared without a trace.

OverallEdit

Of the three thieves, Astore leans the most toward defense. His stats in HP, Defense, and Resistance are easily the best of the three, and his high base speed is competitive with the growths of his competitors. While these traits are not generally associated with thieves, being tougher to kill means he is more likely to survive accomplishing tasks with his thief skills, which is his primary function.

Since there is no chance for thieves to promote in this installment of the series, they cannot advance past an unpromoted level of 20, making them ill suited for combat. However, using multiple thieves can often be a good idea, as this saves you time and turns when looting a castle, or grants extra visibility in a sandstorm. In addition, having a second thief around is a good idea if you are using Astore, as he caps speed last of the three, and speed is needed to steal things.

Character EndingEdit

Astore - Shadow of Ostia

After the war, Astore's name disappeared from the records. Legends say that he worked to rebuild Ostia, but nothing else about him is known.

EtymologyEdit

The name Gorlois comes from Arthurian legend. Gorlois was the Duke of Cornwall and the first husband of Igraine before Uther Pendragon.
