“Oh, all right, then. Crap, we can't be sitting here talking, the bandits are catching up on us. Hide behind me, Sister. This is a straight path... One wrong move, and we'll be sandwiched!”
—Barts, in a conversation with Enteh
Barts is the son of Daros and a woman who died when he was very young. He grew up believing that Lan was his true mother. After Enteh is kidnapped by Yazam and the Taurus Bandits, he travels to their base in the mountains to rescue her. Eventually, he saves Enteh and leaves the base, but Yazam quickly notices and sends his men to hunt them down. They are soon aided by Runan, who had come to protect Taurus from the bandits. If he visits Plum's house during the chapter, she will declare that she hates him for leaving her behind. He will also take a Poleax with him before he departs. After Plum is recruited, he can have a conversation with him in which she convinces him to accept her decision to join Runan.
During Map 7, Barts can find Thomas within a ballista and recruit him into Runan's army. At the banquet after the chapter, he eats in his usual impolite manner and Plum tries to stop him because she is embarrassed. Her reaction causes him to wonder if she has a crush on someone, which she denies and states that she wants to appear as a lady. However, he shows little regard for this and continues to eat in the way that he prefers.
If he is sent with Holmes after the first route split, Barts can visit the residence of Plum's owner in Map 14 if she was captured by the slave traders in Map 10. Upon entering, he agrees to watch the first performance of a new dancer. However, he quickly notices that the dancer is Plum and attacks the owner in order to rescue her.
His ending depends on who rescues Plum from slavery during Map 14. If Holmes saves her, Barts and Rennie are revealed to be lovers and decided to live together in Salia with permission from Lionheart. However, if Barts himself rescues Plum, he develops romantic feelings for her and decides to leave her behind, presumably to try to make sense of his feelings.
Automatically from the start of Map 2.

Barts is...a bit of a mess. While his Strength, Speed and HP are solid, his skill is so lopsidedly low in growth, he cannot compete with Samson. Now, Barts, however, is a solid early-game character, his abilities being useable and his skill high for when he joins, but is hard at work making Axes accurate. The Axes hardness to aim is Barts' biggest weakness, while most stats grow respectably, he'll probably never get more than 10 skill on his own, which will pretty much cement him to the sidelines.
I want to fight more...”
