Not to be confused with Canas.

Canis is one of the twelve Deadlords, and appears in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, and Fire Emblem Awakening.

In Genealogy of the Holy War, little is mentioned about the Deadlords, but they are all fought in the Final Chapter near Belhalla and eventually defeated, including Canis.

In Thracia 776, Canis is fought in the Final Chapter. The character who becomes Canis is Sara if she is either dead or not recruited.

Canis possesses a Nosferatu tome, and it is thus recommended to attack her with characters who are capable of defeating her quickly before she can make any moves, such as Shannan with the Balmung or Larcei with a Brave Sword. Alternatively, the Sleep staff or the Silence Staff may be used against Canis before attacking her.

Canis is widely considered the most dangerous of the six Deadlords present in the Final Chapter. Canis is capable of counterattacking with her deadly set of skills, and has the potential of wiping out weaker units with relative ease. Furthermore, if the player waits too long before defeating her, Canis may utilize her Berserk Staff on a random ally unit on the map, which is likely to spell disaster.

It is recommended to have Mareeta's starting position close to Canis, and defeat her with Mareeta's Sword, which provides the Nihil skill and will assure Canis does not activate Miracle. Alternatively, the player could warp Mareeta over to Canis to defeat her.

Alternatively, one can use a Pure Water or Ward Staff and a Magic Floor to buff one of your units' Magic stat high enough to be able to use the Sleep Staff or Silence Staff to render Canis helpless so she can be captured without a fight when your units clear out her room.

Etymology[]

The Deadlords' names are Latin words for the animals of the Chinese zodiac. The zodiac's eleventh sign is the dog, which in Latin is canis.

Canis' Japanese name, Elf, is the German and Dutch word for the number 11.

Trivia[]

  • Canis is tied with Jake for the most canonical reclasses at 3 (Shaman, Sage and Valkyrie).
  • Oddly enough, Canis is an enemy with the Paragon skill, despite the fact that she is an enemy unit, and enemies cannot gain experience, as well as the fact that she is a level 20 promoted unit, meaning even if she were playable, she could never gain EXP anyway. This was probably meant to indicate the connection between Sara and Canis, even if Sara survives until Thracia 776’s final chapter.
