Canto

From Fire Emblem Wiki

Image:Canto.pngCanto (also known as Repeated Movement) is a skill from most Fire Emblems. It allows mounted characters to use up the rest of their movement after performing certain actions.

Repeated Movement was introduced in Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu as a hidden skill held by every mounted class. Here it allowed characters to finish moving after attacking, or using a staff, among other things. There was also an item, the Knight Ring, which would give an unmounted unit the capability.

Repeated Movement remained much the same in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, and meshed well with the new rescue mechanic. Rescue Chains, combining rescuing with mounted units being able to move afterwards, became integral to getting high rankings in the game, as well as just good tactics in general.

Fire Emblem: Fūin no Tsurugi disallowed Repeated Movement after attacking and using staves, as did Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. They allowed it after most other actions, however. An exception was made if a unit was located on top of a lava tile.

In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, it was turned into a skill and was usable by any flying unit, such as Hawk tribe laguz as well as mounted units in addition to the official renaming to "Canto".

[edit] Path of Radiance

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance saw the return of Repeated Movement being effective after attacking, and also the return of the Knight Ring for an unmounted unit.

However, in Path of Radiance the skill bearing the actual name 'Canto' is a skill only useable by Reyson. In Path of Radiance Canto is the skill that allows Reyson to sing Galdrar. For obvious reasons it is impossible to unequip from Reyson and no scroll exists for it.

This was changed in Radiant Dawn.
