—Ced in Thracia 776
Ced is a playable child character from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He is the son of Erinys, the older brother of Fee, and within Thracia 776's canonicity, the son of Lewyn, as well as the inheritor of the Forseti tome passed down through Silesse's royal family.
His substitute character is Hawk in Genealogy of the Holy War.
Profile[]
Within the canonicity of Thracia 776, during Silesse's occupation by the Grannvale Empire, Ced, along with the remaining royal family relocated to Tófa, under the protection of Silessean rebels. When Erinys was suffering from a fatal illness, Ced departed from Silesse in order to find Lewyn, who had disappeared years prior, believing him to be the only one able to heal her. Upon arriving in Munster following a lead on Lewyn's whereabouts, he noticed the distress of the people under Raydrik's rule and decided to put his search on hold and stay there to help them. Encountering the Magi Squad and eventually becoming its leader, he attempted to stop the child hunts conducted by the Loptr Church. During this time, he met Asbel, taking him as his apprentice and taught him the basics of magic, including how to wield the powerful Grafcalibur. These efforts and his fighting against the Grannvale Empire earned him the title of "Ced the Hero".
If Karin speaks to Ced in Chapter 4x of Thracia 776, she informs him of Erinys's death two months prior, and calls him out for neglecting his family. Before parting ways, Ced gives the Ced Scroll to Karin as a gift. After Seliph's liberation of Conote from Bloom, Ced takes a stand against the Thracian army, which attempts to seize Munster under orders from Travant. Ced also gives the Bragi Sword to Saias, who in turn passes it to Leif.
Following the conclusion of Thracia 776 and the holy war, Ced returns to Silesse and ascended the throne as king. Due to his hard work and unbending will, Silesse began to regain its former greatness.
Personality[]
Ced is an extremely selfless person who lives for the people around him, and is more than willing to lend a hand to anyone in distress. However, this might prove to be a flaw of his, as he winds up neglecting his own family in the process, causing him to be unable to see his mother off on her deathbed. Furthermore, he is also very humble, even to the point of self-deprecation; he reproaches himself for being a "coward", despite having played a significant role in stopping the child hunts, among other things.
Much like his sister, Ced is also furious at Lewyn (if he is their father) for letting their mother die while waiting for him to return to Silesse, although he is slightly more forgiving than Fee is.

Ced is one of the few children of the second generation who is almost impossible to ruin. Regardless of father, he possesses incredibly high base stats, excellent weapon ranks, staff utility with a decent rank, Adept, and the all-important Pursuit skill. Despite his late joining time and lack of a mount, he will almost always perform well. Of note is that he is one of the only characters besides Julia who can use light magic, and while he cannot use her Nosferatu tome, he can use Lightning, which has impressive might, low weight, and weapon triangle advantage or neutrality over all other tomes, and he is by far the best character to wield it.
Generally, the player has two routes when utilizing Ced. The first is to focus more on his sister Fee, typically through physically-oriented fathers like Naoise, Lex, or Jamke. While these pairings tend not to benefit Ced's stats much, he will still appreciate having additional skills, and his base Magic of 15-16 with even the most physically-oriented fathers is sufficient to handle standard enemies when combined with Lightning and Pursuit. Another common option that will benefit both is Claud, who will boost their staff skills through Bragi blood (including letting Ced use the Valkyrie Staff) and also grant them much greater Magic and Resistance, though the pairing in question can be a bit tricky to get.
The second route is the more infamous of the two: pairing Erinys with Lewyn, which is one of the easiest pairings to obtain. Not only will this provide Ced with an utterly absurd 105% Speed growth and boost up all his most important stats, but it enables him to use Forseti. As Ced is already a very effective and consistent attacker, Forseti's 30 might and gigantic statboosts (including increasing his Speed far beyond the cap) will make Ced into the game's best combat unit by far for some time, able to take on powerful bosses like Arion, Meng, and Ishtar. The pairing also serves Fee rather well, as she appreciates both the skills and the added Speed. However, it does have a significant downside: Ced joins somewhat late, and he is never mounted. This places him in competition with Arthur, who, while not as offensively impressive, joins significantly earlier and can become a Mage Knight upon promotion. Because of this, it can be common to forego the pairing in the name of obtaining Forseti earlier, as the tome is more often than not overkill in Ced's hands.
If Erinys is paired with Lewyn, a bug (see Trivia section) can occur that makes Ced's base speed unusually low compared to Ced with other fathers. Fortunately, this is is rarely a major issue thanks to Forseti's +20 speed bonus and the fact that enemies generally have low Attack Speed.
Conversations[]
In Chapter 8, Seliph can recruit Ced if he speaks to him.
In Chapter 8, if Lewyn is Ced's father, Ced may speak to Seliph, and he will gain three points of luck.

With great bases, unparalleled growths in Magic, Skill, and Speed, and the Forseti tome, which bestows a massive +20 Speed and Skill to the wielder, Ced is immediately one of the strongest members of your team upon joining. Forseti's speed buff is particularly useful for the final chapter of the game, as many of the deadlords have speed stats that allow them to avoid getting doubled by everyone but Ced. Additionally, with an A rank in staves, he is a potent staff-user as well, able to wield staves like Rewarp and Berserk to great effect. He rounds off his kit with some of the game's highest growth rates, and though he won't level often, he can easily put them to good work. His only notable issue is his durability being somewhat average, though the Forseti tome's massive boosts to Avoid mean that it's not as big a problem as one might expect.

Base Set[]
Ced is a stereotypical fast Green Tome infantry unit who is one of the fastest of the class before taking other skills into account. As a result, he is among the best in scoring follow-up attacks against a wide range of foes and can avoid several higher Spd units from doing the same onto him since he has a neutral 39 Spd. At 35 Atk, this also means that he hits fairly hard and can take full advantage of his Spd to dish out incredible damage. His magical bulk is also solid scoring 68 to give him some breathing space against magic users. However, despite all of these strengths, Ced is vulnerable to physical units since he has a low 19 Def, giving him a physical bulk score of 56. Ced will not break any new grounds that existing Green Mages have already done since the beginning of Heroes, but by his own right, he is a useful ally to have at your disposal if looking to give yourself more fast green mages your Hero pool.
Winds of Silesse gives him an innate Spd+3 boost, bringing its neutral Spd to 42. It has an Attack Speed Solo effect, boosting his Atk/Spd by 6 during combat if he is not adjacent to an ally. As such, he technically reaches an impressive 55 Atk and 48 Spd for a neutral Ced and only gets stronger if he has other skills to compliment this.
Luna allows Ced to ignore 50% of his opponent's Res when it activates, helping him to take down high Res walls. Speed Resistance Solo grants him an additional Spd/Res+6 during combat and the Spd boost does apply on top of his tome, thus achieving a blistering 54 Spd. Pulse Smoke inflicts a Special cooldown count point to the target foe Ced attacks and any of their allies within two spaces of that target.
Counters[]
Ced is reliant on his Solo skill effects to truly bring out the maximum of his power, thus under the control of an AI, he can be inadvertently placed by an ally, thus disabling the buffs he needs to dominate. Otherwise, his lack of melee range countering in the enemy phase, leaves him vulnerable to most Sword and Dragon units who can target his much lower Def. Several Bow users can also take advantage of his low physical bulk with Igrene, Midori, and New Year Anna having the color advantage. Even with Speed Resistance Solo, he still can also be destroyed by Red mages like Summer Byleth or Lysithea and her brave form.
Skill Inheritance[]
Ced has a particularly solid starting kit that needs only a few budget skills to complete it. Draw Back or Reposition are standard options for a Tome user's Assist skill as the value of these positioning skills are highly recommended. Desperation is a fairly standard fast mage skill that ensures that once he gets into the skill's range, he can do his follow-up attack before his foe can perform their counter-attack. Replacing Luna with Glimmer will better increase his overall damage output, especially once he replaces his Speed Resistance Solo with Attack Speed Solo. That and using the Attack Speed Solo seal means that in total, Ced can achieve a massive +18 Atk/Spd boost by himself, ensuring that no unit can be faster than him and can hit incredibly hard, leaving few survivors.

Overall[]
Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.

Base Set[]
Ascended Ced tends to be superior to his base counterpart due to his base set being flawless. He is an oriented Player Phase Green Mage that can exploit every opponent's low Resistance as well. Thanks to his very high magical bulk and his Special ability, in a 1v1 combat, he is likely to take down almost any opponent easily. His Heired Forseti grants the Quickened Pulse effect which makes his Blazing Wind trigger more easily each turn. Blazing Wind is an Area of Effect special that can damage up to five foes in the shape of a "+" with his target at the center of the area of effect. Attack Speed Ideal further improves his two strongest stats by boosting Attack and Speed by 7 when at full HP and 2 additional of each of them if he is with a Bonus. Special Spiral improves the damage dealt by Blazing Wind and further reduces its Special Cooldown, allowing him to perform the said Blazing Wind each turn. Infantry Pulse further reduces his Special Cooldown when at maximum value which allows him to strike with his Blazing Wind from the first turn and reduces adjacent ally Infantry unit ones in a similar way.
Counters[]
Due to his Spd and Res being his biggest weaknesses, Ascended Ced is mainly going to be on offensive teams since he provides little scoring benefits in Aether Raids defense teams, but he is a veritable threat if he appears in an Arena Duel team, due to his Rising Wind causing heavy damage to a group of his opponents and finishing one of them with his Heired Forseti in a single turn. However, Ascended Ced falls easily against any unit that can attack first, due to his equally low Defense and Resistance. Units that can defeat him from safety in most cases are mainly Cavalry units, like Legendary Lilina, Reginn and Legendary Sigurd and flying Beasts that are already transformed, like Tibarn and Embla. Additionally, he could struggle against High Res units like Ascended Tiki, who can endure his Blazing Wind and if they're equipped with Distant Counter or at least can counter naturally from afar, they can deal back and defeat him.
Skill Inheritance[]
Ascended Ced is mostly a Player Phase unit. Giving him a Growing Wind instead of his default Blazing Wind increases the Area of Effect to a larger area at the cost of a little less damage, affecting larger groups of opponents, even enemy Armors that trigger their Savior via any Far Save to protect nearby units, so they are already weak and easy to demolish by the time he initiates his Attack. Astra is also a good special skill that can be used due to his very high attack stats, so Ascended Ced is likely to OHKO almost any opponent with it. His only empty skill slot is his Assist Skill, which Draw Back or Reposition are excellent choices due to the utility they provide. Lull Attack Resistance gives his foes an Atk/Res-3 and neutralizes any visible buffs on those two stats.

Etymology[]
Ced is usually short for Cedric, which was originally a misspelling of the name Cerdic by Sir Walter Scott in the novel Ivanhoe. The name Cerdic is most commonly associated with Cerdic of Wessex, the first king of Wessex (which eventually became the Kingdom of England).
Possibly named after Cet mac Mágach, a warrior from the Ulster Cycle.
In-universe, he was named after his ancestor Ced, one of the Twelve Crusaders.
Trivia[]
- From his in-game portrait in Genealogy of the Holy War, Ced appears to be heterochromatic, as his closer eye appears to be green, while the other appears to be brown. A similar effect is present in Ishtar's portrait.
- In every other appearance in the series however, both of his eyes are green.
- Ced is the only pre-promoted child unit in Genealogy of the Holy War.
- Ced's English voice actor, Phillip Reich, also voices male Kris.
- Due to a bug in the game, when Lewyn is Ced's father, Ced's inherited speed can be so high that it exceeds the Sage speed cap of 30. This causes two minor issues:
- Before the game is reset, Ced's speed will be displayed as 30 but treated as a higher number. If Lewyn and Erinys are both Level 30 at the end of Generation 1, this will give Ced about 47 base speed.
- After the game is reset, Ced's speed will "fix" itself and be decreased to his base speed minus 30 points. Therefore, if Lewyn and Erinys are both Level 30 at the end of Generation 1, Ced will have about 47-30=17 speed, no matter what level Ced was when the game was reset. After this reset, Ced can continue to gain speed points normally during level-ups like any other unit without his speed resetting.
- Despite being able to canonically wield Forseti, Ced's personal tome in Heroes, Winds of Silesse, allude to the pairing system at Genealogy of the Holy War, where Lewyn doesn't have to be necessarily Ced's father.
