Xane as a Chameleon in Shadow Dragon.
Chameleon (referred to as Command in the Japanese version, Freelancer in the American version, and Commando in fan translations) is a class unique to the character Xane. It is special in its way to copy others, or as the action in-game is called Imitate. It then goes to a flashy scene acting like a class promotion. Xane transforms from what he usually is dressed in to an exact replica of the character he has Imitated.
What Xane copiesEdit
- Max HP (Note: Xane does not copy this in the Super Famicom version)
- Weapon Rank/Weapon Level
What Xane does not copyEdit
- Enemies (players may have to hack to make this possible)
- Current HP (Only goes to the HP of Xane before Imitation)
- Exp of Copied Character
- Level (While the display shows the copied unit's level, Xane retains his own as a unit)
While this is great to have a copy of a useful character, it has its flaws. Xane can not stay Imitated forever, he changes back immediately after five turns are up, reverting to his max HP (if he had it when he end his Imitation), Regular Class, Regular Stats, Level. He does have another good point though, whatever experience gained when he imitates and fights stays with him, making it easier to level him up (note: Xane does not gain any EXP in the Super Famicom version when transformed). This is very different from Dancers and Bards beforehand who could only level up by dancing/playing.
It should be noted that Xane can use swords when untransformed in the Super Famicom version of Mystery of the Emblem.
