“OF COURSE we're here to help you. I'm a delicate flower, but I know how to battle.”
—Charlotte introducing herself and Benny

Charlotte is a playable character in Fire Emblem Fates and an ally in the Conquest and Revelation routes. She is a Nohrian border guard.

Profile[]

Charlotte was born in the capital of Nohr, Windmire, and grew up a pauper. Her childhood was more difficult than some due to her parents both being very poor, but they looked after her to the best of their ability.

Charlotte eventually found herself as a member of the Royal Guard, where the pay was high and as gratitude to her parents she sent them part of her pay. However, as Charlotte feared that showing her true personality would cause problems, she used her innocent side while on the job. This resulted in her being deemed unsuitable for a Royal Guard, and as such was demoted to a border guard, where she met Benny. Though disappointed with the lower pay that came with her new position, she still continued to send part of her pay to her parents.

Birthright[]

Charlotte appears briefly in Chapter 14 as Corrin and the Hoshidan army launches an assault at the Border Walls where she and Benny are defending. The border guards are defeated and Charlotte's fate is unknown as her dialog does not confirm whether she died or was simply wounded. Players can optionally ignore her. But she can only move out of her space after Benny has been defeated.

Conquest[]

During Corrin's attempt to quell the rebellion at Cheve in Chapter 13, Charlotte hears the ruckus happening outside the Border Walls and comes out with Benny to see the reason. They eventually discover Corrin and their army in the middle of a battle. Although she initially throws a fit due to being disturbed awoken, after hearing of Corrin's royalty status, she quickly butters up to them and offers to fight alongside them with Benny in tow. With the prospect of a better opportunity for pay, Charlotte joins Corrin's cause.

Charlotte subsequently aids Corrin's effort to put an end to the age old conflict between Hoshido and Nohr. She returns to the castle guard thereafter, bewitching all manner of bachelors at the royal balls.

Revelation[]

After hearing Corrin stopping Xander and Ryoma from clashing at the Destroyed Town, King Garon sends Charlotte and Benny, alongside Silas to Port Dia to stop Corrin. Sick of her job and its low pay, Charlotte encounters Elise who had just joined Corrin's army. Though initially mean to her, she quickly defects to Corrin's army when she realizes who Elise actually is and the increased pay she would get for protecting her.

Charlotte subsequently aids Corrin's effort to put an end to Anankos' machinations. If she marries Male Corrin or Xander, she will become the queen of Valla and Nohr respectively.

Personality[]

Charlotte is normally perceived as cordial and authentic by most men who interact with her, though she can be quite flirtatious and forward during her courting attempts. However, behind their backs, she is brutish, rough, and potent. She is a ferocious fighter and loves throwing herself into battle without a thought of danger, but tries her best to keep these impulses in check around men. Apparently her true personality can worry even the otherwise cocky Niles, who immediately regrets having teased her in their Support. She interacts with her "kind" personality when speaking with men as she has received negative reactions when she showed her true personality to them, which badly affected her self-esteem and led her to believe that she would never be really loved. Her façade does not work all the time however; Xander, Odin and Jakob are able to see through it and Kaze is seemingly unaffected by it. The only male character she does not put up a façade for is Benny, since they are always working together. In fact, in her support conversations with him, she actually expresses relief that she can drop the act with him (so long as there's no one else around). Charlotte is particularly skilled in barehanded combat, as Xander notes her skill when she takes down a Faceless without any weapons and was able to fell a tree with a single punch in her support with Corrin. She also dislikes flattery.

Her personality as a whole stems from her childhood where she was raised poor, but was well loved by her parents. As a way of saying thanks to her parents, she became a soldier and sent part of her pay to them. She wishes to get into nobility so that she can increase the amount of money she can send to her parents, shown through her supports with Xander and Leo. However, in Leo's case, she does not want to marry to nobility just for the sake of their wealth, concerned that her feelings may be impure or that she may hurt them by accident. It is also shown that she will marry non-wealthy people if she truly loves them.

Her support with Nyx reveals that she also has a soft and caring side, making Nyx act like a child so that she can feel comfortable in her body.

She is the most cynical member of the entire army.

Base Class[]

Charlotte is the second Fighter recruited in Conquest and Revelation after Arthur. While Arthur's stats favor a more balanced spread, Charlotte's lean towards a typical Berserker build. For the most part, she is an impeccable glass cannon, boasting extremely high Strength and Speed to hit hard and dodge well. While she has a significant growth in HP, with an 85% chance to gain a point per level, her defenses are low, leading to significant damage if she cannot avoid an attack. While she has the health to survive a hit, the health lost will be much higher than most other characters with similar HP. Charlotte's base class is Fighter. Regardless which route she is recruited in, she already has both Fighter skills equipped. HP +5 further increases her already high HP by 5 points, which is always welcome, even in later stages of the game. Gamble drops her hit rate by 10 while raising her critical by 10. While Axes may have naturally low Hit rates, giving her weapons with high critical chances like a Killer Axe or Beruka's Axe can ensure that activating critical attacks happens as much as possible to when she does manage to land an attack.

Charlotte's Personal Skill is Unmask, which increases her critical hit rate by 20 and boosts her damage by 4 when fighting female enemies. For its selective usage, it requires that she engage specific enemy units- meaning that its reliability is low, given that the ratio of generic female units are vastly outnumbered by male units. In Conquest, aside from the playable Birthright characters, it applies to Shrine Maidens, Priestess', Sky Knights, Falcon Knights, and Kinshi Knights, all of which have low Defense, but high Speed and Skill. In Revelation, Troubadours, Strategists, and Maids are added to the enemy unit pool. For the most part, these classes are healers that sport low Defense, but high Speed/Skill, making her good for eliminating the enemy's healing units, though Strategists may be risky as Tomes have an advantage over Axes and her low Resistance can lead to catastrophic damage if she does not kill them.

Charlotte's two promotions are Berserker and Hero.

Berserker continues to highlight her strengths by boosting her HP, Strength, and Speed growths even more while continuing to downplay her defenses. It is the best class when looking to keep Charlotte as a glass cannon, as the class' innate 15% critical hit bonus stacks nicely on most of her existing skill and her personal skill. The first Berserker skill, Rally Strength, is a supportive skill that could be useful to help other units attack other units in case Charlotte herself cannot reach them. Axefaire further increases her raw damage output and is extremely useful for her.

Hero is a slightly safer Charlotte, losing some Strength in exchange for Skill and Defense. For a slightly more balanced Charlotte, Hero is the route to take. Even if not keeping Charlotte in this class, the main perk of the class is that it has her only guaranteed offensive skill, Sol, which, given her powerful attacks, can easily dish out powerful blows and heal a significant amount of any lost HP, especially at later levels. Axebreaker boosts her hit and evasion against axemen so she can become an anti-unit for her fellow Berserker units.

Charlotte has a myriad of useful Support partners to pair up with. Keaton provides Strength and Speed alongside a bit of Defense, if planning to promote both into Berserkers, Arthur makes a great partner, as he can use the Strength and Speed, and more Strength and Speed alongside some skill are helpful for Charlotte.

Secondary Class Set[]

Charlotte's secondary class is the Troubadour, entailing the Strategist and Maid promotions. This class and its promotions are mainly to help her gain some much-needed Resistance, as that is the main stat strength of this class. Unfortunately, given that Charlotte's stats suit a more physically oriented class, she is not nearly as good as a healer as Elise or even Felicia and Flora. Skill-wise, Troubadour gives her Resistance +2, which is good as she needs as much Resistance as she can get, though this can be replaced later. Demoiselle is another supporting skill to help out male units near her by reducing damage dealt to them by 2. If she becomes a Strategist, Charlotte continues to struggle, as her low Magic makes her ill-suited for offensive play. The skills tied to this class are also a bit ill-suited for an offensive Charlotte as Rally Resistance is good to help others, but the skill itself does not apply to her when she uses it. The same goes for Inspiration, which boosts damage dealt by allies by 2 and reducing damage taken by 2. If she becomes a Maid, however, she will be the physically strongest Maid out of all potential Maids, which may be useful in Conquest where dagger users are rare and generally rather weak. However, again, she is nowhere near as potent in her healing as her other competitors. Maid's secondary skill is the only one useful for her base class, as Tomebreaker allows her to avoid a bit of stress from engaging her biggest threat, magic units, as it raises her Hit and Evasion against them.

Friendship Class[]
  • Nyx: Nyx provides her with Dark Mage and its promotions, Sorcerer and Dark Knight. Dark Mage does not at all suit Charlotte and her purely physical build. The skills offered and the boosted Resistance growths are nice, but Charlotte should return to her base classes as soon as possible. Malefic Aura has no use on her, but Heartseeker can both cancel out the Hit reduction of Gamble and make attacking with Axes generally much easier. Sorcerer offers Vengeance, which when coupled with her high HP growths, high HP cap on Berserker, and low defensive abilities can make the activation of it exceptionally deadly. Bowbreaker lets Charlotte easily deal with Bows that she otherwise isn't able to counterattack without using a Hand Axe or Tomahawk. Dark Knight gives Seal Magic to lower the damage that Magic users deal, but does require her to first enter combat with them and survive, considering her already low Resistance, this could be a hefty fee. Lifetaker gives a guaranteed form of HP recovery when she attacks and kills an enemy, taking into account her High HP, the amount recovered can be immense.
  • Beruka: Beruka provides her with Wyvern Rider and its promotions, Wyvern Lord and Malig Knight. Wyvern Rider offers some of the same levels of offense that Fighter offers as well as physical defense while dropping Charlotte's speed. Strength +2 should not be needed due to her already being so strong, but Lunge can be used to set up on the enemy or forcibly remove a unit from a tile such as a fort. Wyvern Lord gives Rally Defense, which can be useful if Charlotte can't reach the enemy but can see better use on other units, and Swordbreaker, useful for fighting against high Avoid Swordmasters, and can be combined with great effect with Tomebreaker to mostly ignore the weapon triangle advantages swords and tomes have against axes. Malig Knight grants Savage Blow, which inflicts damage on enemies within 2 spaces, great especially if for some reason Charlotte can't kill the targeted enemy. Trample boosts damage by +5 when attacking unmounted units, effectively being a Faire skill against said units and further making Charlotte a dangerous unit.
  • Peri: Peri provides her with Cavalier and its promotions, Paladin and Great Knight. The Cavalier line offers balanced out stats, but Shelter sees little use on Charlotte as she's specialized around offense. However, Elbow Room adds more blanket damage for her to inflict, though she has little issues battling her foe without it. From Paladin, Defender can be helpful early by boosting stats when the lead in a Guard Stance, but can be dropped for better skills. Aegis will cut damage done by long range weapons like tomes and bows in half when activated, which can be considered mostly needed due to Charlotte's rather nonexistent Defense and Resistance. Great Knight offers Luna, which ignores half of the targeted enemy's Defense or Resistance to her attack as damage, but should not be needed due to Charlotte having very high attack anyways and most Hoshidan classes not having much Defense to begin with. Armored Blow lowers damage taken when attacking by -10, which helps in terms of dealing with Counterattacks, which can be helpful or not as she can easily wipe out a unit with a solid hit, but on the other hand, she can easily miss her target.
  • Rinkah: Rinkah is exclusive to Revelation and provides her with Oni Savage and its promotions, Oni Chieftain and Blacksmith. Oni Savage, the rival class to Fighter, has more focus on Defense compared to Speed or Skill. Seal Resistance and Shove are mostly useless on Charlotte. Oni Chieftain offers Death Blow, which raises her Critical Hit rate during the Player's turn. It syncs well with the Berserker's innate Critical Rate bonus, making her a very dangerous aggressive unit during the player's turn. Counter will return the damage dealt by adjacent enemies, which can be deadly thanks to Charlotte's low defensive ability but high HP. Blacksmith grants Salvage Blow, which allows grinding for Hoshidan Iron weapons (except Ox Spirit) but has no combat usage. Charlotte's Luck growths aren't the highest, making this skill difficult to activate. Lancebreaker lets Charlotte further punish Lance users when using an Axe.
Marriage Class[]
  • Male Corrin: Depending on Corrin's secondary class, Charlotte can receive many classes that she cannot receive from any of her other Marriages or Friendships. Aside from the classes listed below and above, Corrin is the only one that can provide her with Apothecary, Archer, Samurai, Shrine Maiden, Sky Knight, and Spear Fighter, all of which are Hoshido exclusive. Each contains a plethora of skills for her to use though a few are considerably worth more compared to the others, especially for some of the strategies listed above. Samurai and its promotions have Vantage to pair well with Vengeance for a powerful and dangerous unit during both the Player and Enemy turns, further more, her High HP will allow it to be triggered rather reliably. Shrine Maiden's promotion Priestess has Renewal for a more solid and constant regeneration skill. The Archer line gives Certain Blow, which greatly helps by fixing her horrible hit rate with axes.
  • Silas/Xander/Arthur: Silas, Xander and Arthur all provide her with Cavalier and its promotions, Paladin and Great Knight, the benefits of which are explained under Peri's section above.
  • Kaze/Saizo: Kaze and Saizo (the latter of whom is exclusive to Revelation) both provide her with Ninja and its promotions, Master Ninja and Mechanist. As a Ninja, Charlotte can perform well due to her high Health, Strength and Speed growths, meaning that she will be able to last a lot longer and deal more powerful double attacks; however, her below average Luck and abysmal Defense and Resistance growths means that she will struggle to withstand many enemy attacks, so she will need to be fed several Tonics and/or stat-boosting items to make up for them. For skills, Charlotte first learns Locktouch, which isn't too useful due to the decline of locks in later segments of the game, meaning that it can be traded for a more preferable skill.
  • Leo/Odin: Leo and Odin both provide her with Dark Mage and its promotions, Sorcerer and Dark Knight; the benefits of this class set are explained under Nyx's section above.
  • Benny: Benny provides her with Knight and its promotions, General and Great Knight. From Knight Charlotte will learn Defense +2, which is useful given her low Defense but gets outclassed by other skills as higher levels, and Natural Cover, which is generally too niche to be widely used. Luna, the first skill learned as a Great Knight, can be useful on high Defense enemies due to Charlotte's very high strength but is often overkill on weaker enemies. Armored Blow is a very useful skill for an offensive Charlotte, as it will allow her to attack more often without worrying as much about her damage taken. General offers Wary Fighter, although, due to Charlotte's high Speed, it will often hurt more than help. Pavise, on the other hand, can help protect against physical damage given her decent Skill.
  • Niles/Keaton: Niles and Keaton both provide Outlaw and its promotions, Adventurer and Bow Knight promotions. Locktouch can be situationally useful, although due to the decline of locked doors and chests later in the game loses its utility. Movement +1 can be useful, although is not needed. As an Adventurer, Charlotte will be rather ineffective as a healer due to her poor Magic, but is considerably stronger and has higher HP than Niles, making her a decent offensive bow user. As an Adventurer she will get Lucky Seven which can help in the earlier turns of a fight but sees its utility go away in prolonged fights. Adventurer's second skill, Pass, can be used to move through enemies and take out ranged units easily, which can be invaluable in Conquest where enemy shuriken and scroll users are common and often behind stronger melee units. Bow Knight allows her access to Rally Skill, which is generally a poor choice on such a strong character but can be combined with Rally Strength from Berserker to serve as a good offensive buffer. Shurikenbreaker, combined with her favored weapon of axes already having an advantage over shurikens and daggers, can allow her to take out enemy dagger users very easily.
  • Laslow: Laslow provides her with Mercenary and its promotions, Hero and Bow Knight. The benefits of both Hero are covered under her base class section above, while the benefits of Bow Knight are covered under Niles/Keaton's.
  • Kaden: Kaden is exclusive to Revelation and provides Diviner and its promotions, Onmyoji and Basara. Magic +2 from Diviner can be used as a last-ditch effort to raise Charlotte's Magic, although even with the boost it will be very low. Future Sight, however, can be somewhat useful in leveling her due to her decent Luck. Onmyoji is a very poor choice for Charlotte, as both skills, Rally Magic and Tomefaire, will see little use on an offensive, strength-based character. Charlotte does however stand to gain some useful skills from the Basara, namely Rend Heaven which activates relatively often and adds lots of extra damage due to her high strength. Quixotic is a gamble, as she will be able to activate her own skills more often and will greatly mitigate the poor hit rate of axes, although the enemy will be able to do the same. Given her low defenses, Quixotic is rather risky; while the has very high HP, she may be guaranteeing enemy hits and will not be able to withstand enough before dying.

Much like her role in Fates, Charlotte is an incredibly powerful offensive oriented Axe Infantry unit who is focused on dishing out heavy damage through her neutral 43 Atk and 41 Spd. While she does have a solid 48 HP and a low 25 Def, giving her a somewhat decent physical bulk score of 73, her low Res leaves her vulnerable to very powerful magic users. Nonetheless, through her sheer offensive prowess, Charlotte does not need to worry about her weaknesses if she can simply dispatch them before they get the chance to.
Fair-Fury Axe gives Charlotte a faster special cooldown. In addition, if she either initiates combat or is within two spaces of an ally, she deals bonus damage equal to 15% of her Atk plus an added +6 Atk/Spd to boot. An average Charlotte with at least a neutral Atk stat can expect to dish out the equivalent of 72 Atk and will likely score a follow-up attack, especially when paired with certain skills that are easily accessible.
Glimmer boosts her damage by 50% when it activates and given the sheer amount of offensive pressure she exudes through her weapon alone, the activation of this skill is basically a death sentence for her unfortunate foe. Swift Sparrow 3 gives Charlotte +6 Atk and +7 Spd if she initiates combat for even more power behind her Fair-Fury Axe when going in aggressively on her foes. Frenzy is a skill that she introduced which reduces damage received from her foe if her Spd is greater than theirs (and determined by the difference between the two, giving her a small bit of extra space to survive a hit from a foe that was somehow able to withstand her hit.) It also gives her a Desperation effect if she initiates combat below 50%. Time's Pulse accelerates her cooldown during combat if she starts her turn at maximum charge.

Counters[]

Charlotte's Res is ultimately her biggest weakness and attacking her first is a far better method of dispatching her than hoping to bait her with a defensive unit. A good portion of Mages can heavily damage her, though Frenzy may require multiple attacks to actually kill her outright. Magical units that can ignore damage reduction, like Legendary Male Byleth makes this latter issue a moot point. Units with good enough damage reduction like Fallen Edelgard can weather her attacks but only a select few can safely do so.

Skill Inheritance[]

Charlotte's starting base kit is incredibly stacked into a solid player-turn oriented build that is only missing an assist skill, in which Reposition is a generally solid option given the universally powerful positioning effect this skill provides. She is a great Galeforce user especially given that she has the innate Time's Pulse built into her kit and she can use this skill to mow down her foe that underestimates how physically aggressive she can be.

Base Set[]

Bridal Charlotte existed in the shallow Lance Infantry pool which gave her some form of standout from others in that combination. However, her stat standouts are easily comparable to her Fates origins where she has an incredible base Atk, sitting at neutral 36 and a high 46 HP. She trades these high points for middling Spd and low defensive stats, particularly in her low 19 Res. Bridal Charlotte is best described as a hard hitting unit, but does not have true bulk to be a true tank, thus is more akin to a close range glass cannon. As a seasonal unit, this also proves to be her downfall as she not only has difficulty getting merges, but she also will not get a preferred weapon, thus requires a high amount of investment to compete with the growing pool. Still, she has her niches a that can allow her to keep up in the current state of Heroes, but not enough to outshine the hoards of units released after here even in the minimal units with the same weapon/movement combination.

First Bite is a supportive weapon that grants a +2 Def/Res buff to all allies within two spaces of her when she initiates combat. While this may have been somewhat of a decent effect, the potency of the effect has severely been reduced overtime and is a shell of its former self. While it can be refined to give her bonus stats, ideally her Spd, she is better off inheriting a combat oriented lance to make better usage of her offensively.

Smite allows Bridal Charlotte to push an ally two spaces away from her, giving a means to extend their movement range which is particularly useful in Aether Raids, although she is not the sole unit who starts with this skill. Wind Boost grants +6 Spd if she has at least 3 HP more than her foe. At neutral 46, she can actually activate this skill on a reasonable basis, though there are far better options for nearly the same effect for her to inherit. Finally Threaten Attack inflicts a -5 Atk debuff on any foe within two spaces of her at the start of either turn, which pseudo increases the physical bulk she has, though once again, the reduction can be minimal at best.

Counters[]

Bridal Charlotte's defensive stats both are quite low and can be exploited by all types of Greens and a handful of hard hitting Blues. Green mages like Nino or Sonya can easily kill her in a single round. Ideally, Bridal Charlotte should focus on launching a single hit and kill them in a single round, hence alternatively a Green with decent bulk can take her hard hit and retaliate through color advantage. Particularly strong candidates include Hector and Sheena

Skill Inheritance[]

Bridal Charlotte is flexible to be ran as a player turn specialist or a defensive specialist, but not both at the same time. Most of her sets run the same skills. Reposition is the standard ally unit positioning skill, Luna or Moonbow allows her to ignore enemy defenses, thus increasing her damage output. Finally Panic Ploy or Infantry Pulse syncs nicely with her high HP, allowing her to use both effectively depending on the player's desire to debuff or charge her ally's specials. Bridal Charlotte's inheritance options can focus solely on increasing her player turn power through a Brave Lance, giving her two guaranteed attacks before her opponent's can. Maximizing her initiation means that she needs Death Blow for its in-combat Atk boost. Lancebreaker can allow her to check her fellow lance wielders as well as her natural advantage over red units. If trying to compete against Armors in the Arena, giving her a Slaying Spear will give her bonus damage against the likes of Zelgius or even Idunn and can deal critical damage to powerful Blues.

If choosing the defensive route, a Slaying Lance accelerates her special cooldown. Steady Breath focuses on improving her Def when attacked while accelerating her cooldown. In tandem with Aether instead as her special, Bridal Charlotte can quickly charge it in just a single round of combat and smash her enemies using its power. Quick Riposte addresses her low Spd, granting her the ability to double attack so long as her health is over 70% at the start of combat. Aether will keep herself healed, though a Staff unit or use of Ardent Sacrifice can keep her in the skill's activation range.
