—Lord Filat telling Sigurd about Prince Kurth's lover in Anphony Castle
Cigyun (シギュン Shigyun) is a character from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. She is the mother of Arvis and Deirdre, and the wife of Duke Victor of Velthomer.
Cigyun was originally kept under close watch in the Spirit Forest of Verdane, as she was a descendent of Saint Maira, thus possessing minor Loptyr holy blood. However, she soon left the Spirit Forest due to have grown tired of the forest life, thereafter marrying Duke Victor of Velthomer. After her marriage with Victor, she had to deal the myriad of mistresses he kept, and could only helplessly accept the news of him raping her favorite maid. Victor attempted to banish this maid when she became pregnant, to which Cigyun intervened, taking pity on her plight. This could possibly explain Cigyun falling for Prince Kurth later on, sparking the affair they later had.
When Victor learned of her affair with Prince Kurth, he lost his mind in sheer rage, causing him to ridicule both Cigyun and Kurth before taking his own life. Cigyun, greatly troubled by her husband's suicide, thus decided to leave Prince Kurth. She then fled back to the confines of the Spirit Forest, where she soon gave birth to Deirdre. However, complications arose during this child-birthing process, resulting in Cigyun losing her life as a result. Deirdre then grew up in relative peace in the Spirit Forest, living peacefully until she met Sigurd.
Etymology
Cigyun is a corruption of Sigyn, Loki's girlfriend from Norse mythology.
