Pair Up (Double in the Japanese version) is a game mechanic found in Fire Emblem: Awakening. It is similar to the Rescue command from previous games in the series although you command another unit to remove you from the map and being carried temporarily, giving stat bonuses to the unit who is carrying the other (unlike penalties with the Rescue command). The stat boosts are determined by the class of the unit being carried (for example, a Mage mainly raises Magic while a Knight mainly raises Defense) and the support level between the two units, as well as the actual stats of the supporting unit. In addition, the two units can switch roles on command.
Pairing characters can also increase their relationship, as part of the game's Support system. The longer they are paired up, the more their relationship will build, and the more efficient their teaming will be in battle. If they team up long enough and are compatible (For example, aren't blood-related), they can even marry and have children who can be recruited later in Paralogues.
Pair Up BonusesEdit
While pairing up, the active unit gains statistical bonuses according to the following formula:
- Pair Up Bonus = Inactive unit's stat bonus + Inactive unit's class bonus + Support level bonus
Note that there is no bonus for HP.
When a unit is paired up with their spouse, touching their portrait on the touch screen will show their full portrait blushing on the class information screen.
