“Yeah. I'm on a pegasus, see? I have a different movement pace than the others, so it's easier to fight on my own...”
—Shanna talking to Dieck in a support conversation.

Shanna is a playable character from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. She is an Ilian Pegasus Knight and the younger sister of Juno and Thea.

She makes a brief cameo appearance in chapters 16 and 17 of the Hasha no Tsurugi manga.

Profile[]

An apprentice Pegasus Knight of Ilia, Shanna join Dieck's mercenaries to follow the Knights’ code that “one cannot truly learn without learning from foreign mercenary groups”. After the war, Shanna's deeds were fully recognized and she became an official Pegasus Knight.

Personality[]

The youngest of three sisters and with a cheerful free spirit, Shanna is the type to talk to anybody without hesitation, even though she is aware that in order to become a Pegasus Knight, she will have to face countless harsh battles, and experience being a friend or foe to her own sisters.

Despite that, with her personality, she is still welcomed as a member by Dieck, whom she cares deeply for and even used to address him as "Chief", though he wasn't fond of the nickname. She often seem to be incredibly nice towards her mercenary comrades as well, thinking that Lot has a crush on her, although he only cares about her as a little sister. Because of this, she calls him "Big Brother". She is also kinder to Lot than she is to Wade since she fights with the latter in their supports conversations.

Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.

Shanna is the player's first flying unit and thus is very useful for rescuing others and carrying them around the map. She has very high Skill, Speed, and Luck, but her HP, Defense, and Strength are quite lacking, although her competition in units who join around the same time, such as Lance, isn’t much better by a much bigger margin. Even still, this isn’t much of a problem for Shanna, even on Hard Mode. With her base strength of four, she’s able to 2RKO most soldiers and archers with an Iron Lance. And with her high speed she can still double enemies using a Silver Lance even though her speed will be lowered by 6 or 5 (4 or 3 if she is given a Body Ring) Which can do a lot of damage especially in a game where it's rare to 1RKO enemies.

Her constitution is on the low side, but this means she can pick up heavy units with a huge con with ease, such as Dieck, with his relatively high constitution of 13. Even with this constitution, she’s able to double the same things as units such as Lot or Alen, who have similar speed to her wielding an Iron Lance; in fact, at base she even matches Lance's base speed if she is using an Iron Lance. With her speed growth, she’ll be able to reach higher speeds on average, normally able to double Hard Mode Cavaliers by Chapter Six, contributing a lot as a combat unit. Her Pegasus helps her reach awkward spots within maps to reach things other units most likely couldn’t, making it easier for her to chip enemies, and sometimes even kill them.

Shanna also has one other thing she has no competition for; an Elysian Whip. This is found just before the Western Isles within Chapter 8’s treasure room. If Shanna is at least level 10 by this time, the choice can be made to promote her early, giving her access to swords just in time for an area filled with axe users. She also gains a stat boost upon promotion, which help her tremendously in the long run.

By the time Thea joins, Shanna will most likely better than, or on par with her, despite the Hard Mode bonuses. Shanna also has the advantages of being recruited at Chapter 2, as opposed to her joining at Chapter 10B/11A, depending on the route taken. It’s a great idea to use both, since having two fliers is useful for rescue chains and they can both support each other. Shanna supporting with Roy is also feasible if she is near him often, normally rescuing him onto a more convenient spot. This support could give both parties a much needed boost in attack and critical, with Shanna's rescue utility aiding Roy in approaching the throne despite their differing movement when separated. Supporting with Dieck gives her a nice boost in Defense and critical. Wade can give Shanna the same bonuses of the Roy pairing, so if he's in use this is a good pairing to boost both sides' effectiveness.

Overall, Shanna is a very effective unit in almost every regard. She’s a great utility, good combat unit. It is recommended to use her for almost any chapter within the game, as she makes it a lot easier.

Base Set[]

Shanna is a Book I Lance Flier unit who is decent for her original release, but has since remained rather lukewarm in performance. Her Spd is workable at 35, but most of her Atk at 30 leaves her fairly weak in terms of raw damage. Her mixed bulk is decent, but nothing particularly enough to be considered tanky. With the later addition of her Resplendent form, she does gain better stats and being a 3-4 star unit makes her a an easy +10 merge unit. There are much better units who can perform her role better without nearly as much dedicated investment, but Shanna can be a reliable unit if that effort is spared.
Her initial weapon was a Killer Lance which accelerated her Special cooldown and helped to make up for her lacking Atk by utilizing her Special to give her that extra power that she needed. While it could be upgraded to a Slaying Lance, Shanna later received a much better version in the form of Shanna's Lance. Not only does it have higher might than the other two, its refine effect gives her 10 true damage to her attack if she activates her special. While it is not the most exciting effect, the guaranteed damage on top of her high speed that allows her to quickly charge the weapon and deal respectable damage in the end.
Iceberg is her default special and in its heyday was a moderately useful special on her, but her 31 Res does not pack enough of a punch to make it her best special. Desperation remains a useful skill that allows her to immediately perform her follow-up attacks before her foe can counterattack if she is under 75% HP at the start of battle. Not only is this a useful skill on her and a solid budget option, but it is also a very solid inheritable Skill B for high Spd units to inherit from her, making Shanna a useful skill fodder unit. Threaten Speed reduces the Spd of foes by 5 if they are within two spaces of Shanna at the start of either turn. While the debuff can help Shanna secure Spd scores to double some units, there are better skills out there than do better in this regards.

Counters[]

Shanna's weaker Atk score makes her easy prey for Green units to wall her through sheer color advantage alone. Even some Blue units with high defense like Effie can easily take a hit or two from her without suffering. With her default lance, Guard or any sort of skill that slows down her special immediately weakens her and removes her main power source of her damage output. As a flier unit, Bow units deal heavy damage to her through effective damage.

Skill Inheritance[]

Shanna is pretty straightforward in build as she can be built on a budget thanks in part to having Desperation by default. Reposition is the best overall supportive skill for her unless going for Arena scores, in which a third tier Rally skill is best. Moonbow helps her by ignoring part of her foe's Def which is a far better means of increasing her damage than trying to use her mediocre Res in Iceberg. Skill A is flexible as Fury gives her the flat stats that she needs plus the recoil can put her into Desperation range. Skill C can be built with a host of Flier skills, though Caeda's Fortify Fliers is the best budget option without requiring to use Grail units or sacrificing 5 star units. Other options mainly hinge on her B skill as she also works well with Hit and Run and many popular premium B skills on offensive fliers. Skill A can also be filled with a host of Atk/Spd boosting skills like the Solo and Push variants as well as Swift Sparrow.

Base Set[]

Bridal Shanna is a seasonal Red Bow Flier unit who embodies the typical offensive focused unit with high Atk and Spd sitting at 38 and 42 respectively. She trades this mainly in her low mixed bulk, scoring a measly 60 in physical bulk and 74 in magical. Mostly due in part to her starting skill set, Bridal Shanna can deal high damage and is highly capable of securing double attacks except against the fastest of units or units that hard stop them. While she does not particularly shake the grounds of the meta, she is a useful unit to acquire, if only held back by her limited availability.
Rose-Quartz Bow is Bridal Shanna's starting unique weapon and it packs some strong power behind it by innately increasing her Atk by 3. In addition, if she is within two spaces of an ally, she deals 20% of her Spd as bonus true damage and gains Atk/Spd+6 during combat. Finally, as one can expect of a bow, she also deals effective damage to flier units. The first effect greatly values skills that boost her speed and allies who can similarly give her Spd buffs, either visible or in combat. Because this can be relatively easy to achieve, she can essentially acquire as much as +12 true damage to her attacks if she gains enough support from allies and can take full advantage of her base kit's skills which focus on boosting he Atk/Spd as well.
Draconic Aura gives her an additional 30% increase to her already high Atk when it activates. Swift Sparrow 3 gives her Atk +6 and Spd +7 when she initiates combat. Attack Defense Far Trace gives her【Canto (Rem.)】which allows her to utilize any non used movement after attacking a foe, using an assist skill, or destroying an object/structure. It also inflicts an Atk/Def-3 debuff on her foe during combat, increasing her damage and weakening them. Attack Defense Rein inflicts Atk/Def-4 on foes within two spaces of her during combat.

Counters[]

Bridal Shanna's Red coloring opens her to being walled off by strong enough blue units like Duessel, Seiros, and Brave Dimitri. Brave Dimitri and other common Blue units that can counterattack/attack from a distance like Nótt and Legendary Chrom are all very difficult for her to face even if she has the initiative in combat. Her high offense, low defense makes her incredibly strong during her phase, but also weak during her opponent's. If left exposed, a wide host of units can easily dispatch her if they get the first strike and she does not have the means to reliably try to weather attacks, even if she has Close Counter to try an sneak an attack before dying. Finally, as a flier, Bow units, especially Blue ones like the aforementioned Legendary Chrom, Legendary Lucina, Winter Felix, and Ullr have the bow effectiveness and the color advantage all in one package.

Skill Inheritance[]

Bridal Shanna requires very little investment to make the most of her kit as the only empty slot she has is her Assist skill, which Reposition is always the solid choice to fill the slot except in Arena scoring where a third tier Rally skill works best. Moonbow is the far superior Special for her to take as the 30% loss of their Def usually results in higher damage than her taking 30% of her Atk that Draconic Aura uses.
