Lucina is a playable child character and the tritagonist from Fire Emblem Awakening. Early on in Awakening, she appears as a masked swordsman under the alias of Marth.

Profile[]

Lucina is a member of the Ylissean Royal Family as she is the daughter of Chrom. Her mother is determined by the player's choice, which can be either female Robin, Sully, Sumia, Maribelle, Olivia, or a nameless Village Maiden. If the player pairs Chrom with any of the first five choices for his wife, Lucina can potentially be the older sister to male Morgan, Kjelle, Cynthia, Brady, or Inigo respectively. Alternatively, it is possible for her to be the mother of a female Morgan if she marries male Robin.

As a member of the Ylissean Royal Family, Lucina inherited the Brand of the Exalt, surfacing on her left eye. From a young age, she showed interest in swordplay and was personally taught by her father, whom she developed an especially close bond with. She is among the few individuals deemed worthy to wield the holy sword, Falchion.

Tragically, Chrom was killed by one of his allies, an event which heralded the return of the Fell Dragon Grima. With the world on the brink of destruction, the Divine Dragon Naga sent the children of the Shepherds, lead by Lucina, back into the past in a gambit to stop the resurrection of Grima.

Awakening Drama CD: Recollections of a Future Requiem[]

In her original future, Lucina and some of the other children arrive at Mount Prism. Despite the fact that she only possesses four of the Fire Emblem's Gemstones, the fifth having been lost, Lucina still hopes that Naga will grant her the ability to defeat Grima. She goes into the temple by herself and attempts to request Naga's aid, managing to summon Naga in the process. After conversing with Naga, Lucina reports to the others that while the Awakening Ceremony cannot be performed with only four Gemstones, Naga informed her of another way to save the world: go back in time to prevent Grima's resurrection. She is unsure if the rest of the children will go along with the plan, but Inigo is confident that they will place their trust in her decision, while Brady is less certain.

Some time later, Lucina explains the option to return to the past to the rest of the children at Ylisstol. Inigo, Owain, Severa, and Cynthia agree with the plan, while Brady, Gerome, and Kjelle wish to stay in the future, and Laurent, Nah, Noire, and Yarne are undecided. Lucina says that she will respect if anyone decides to stay, but she will go even if she has to do so alone. She also mentions that since the Outrealm Gate will open in three days, everyone will have time to decide what to do.

On the final day before the Outrealm Gate opens, Ylisstol is abruptly attacked by Grima and his force of Risen. Lucina manages to fight back against the Risen, but the soldiers fighting alongside her are killed when Grima arrives. Lucina attempts to stand her ground against Grima, whom boasts of his victory and mocks the death of Lucina's parents. Grima moves in to finish her, but she is saved when Gerome pulls her to safety, aided by Cynthia and Noire. Lucina speculates that Grima must have learned of their plan to return to the past, and requests that Gerome drop her onto Grima's head to attack him. He does so, and Lucina manages to wound Grima by impaling him with Falchion before once again being pulled to safety by Gerome, forcing Grima to retreat. However, Lucina realizes that the rest of Ylisstol has been completely destroyed by the Risen, killing everyone but the twelve remaining children.

Lucina arrives in the burning village just in time to prevent Owain and Inigo from sacrificing themselves to aid the others. She tells them and the rest of the children that Ylisstol is beyond saving, and the only thing that they can do is flee. She silently apologizes to Chrom for failing to protect Ylisse before retreating to a nearby forest.

Lucina tells the children that while it is too late to defeat Grima in their future, they can still return to the past to save the world. Inigo and Owain anticipate saving the world and returning to the future, but Lucina admits that there is something she didn't tell them previously: she does not know if they can return to their world after leaving it. Lucina reaffirms that it is impossible to defeat Grima, and she will return to the past to stop him even if she has to do it by herself. She understands that the rest are still undecided, and asks that they meet her at Mount Prism by daybreak if they decide to go with her. Before she goes there herself, Lucina heads to the ruins of Ylisstol to say goodbye to her parents.

Lucina reaches Mount Prism and finds that no one else is there. She is saddened, but prepares to leave before she is attacked by invading Risen. Fighting by herself, Lucina realizes that she could only fight on previously due to her friends supporting her, and she thanks them for their help before tearfully strengthening her resolve to save the world, though she would rather not do it by herself. Just then, the rest of the children arrive to help, reassuring Lucina that they are all going together.

After the Risen are slain, Gerome offers to give Lucina a mask to conceal her identity when they go to the past. She initially chooses a pair of massive glasses before a disgusted Severa picks out a butterfly mask for her instead. Noire and Nah reflect upon Lucina's unconventional fashion sense before she begins to weep with joy, glad that they can all laugh together again. She also admits that she was wrong in claiming that she could do everything by herself, but Nah and Severa reaffirm that they'll always be together. The group realizes that Grima and the Risen are attacking the temple, and Lucina urges the others to go on ahead of her while she covers them. Putting on the mask, Lucina bids farewell to her world as she declares that she will change her fate.

Awakening[]

Ylisse-Plegia War[]

Fearful that her journey into the past may cause complications to certain events to come, Lucina opted to hide her identity, bundling her hair to appear short and wore a mask given to her by Gerome. While traveling into the past, anomalies in the flow of time due to the presence of Grima and his Risen army following the children caused her to be separated from her friends. Lucina arrives in the present shortly after Chrom recruited Robin.

Lucina protects Lissa from one of the Risen and helps Chrom dispatch the monsters. When Chrom expresses his gratitude after the battle, Lucina introduces herself using the name of the Hero-King Marth and warns him that the events that transpired are but a preview of greater dangers to come. Lucina heads off to Ferox where she gains audience with the West Khan, Basilio. She challenges his champion Lon'qu and wins, becoming the West Khan's representative in the upcoming tournament to decide the ruling Khan. As fate would have it, Chrom becomes the champion of the East Khan, Flavia, in order to gain support for the looming war between Ylisse and Plegia. The two duel in Arena Ferox, where Chrom notices that she wields Falchion and fights similarly to him. After an exhausting duel, Chrom is ultimately victorious and Lucina disappears once more.

Lucina saving Emmeryn

The tensions between Ylisse and Plegia finally break when the King of Plegia, Gangrel, formally declares war on Ylisse. That night, Lucina meets Chrom and Robin in the garden of Castle Ylisse where she reveals that she will save his life in order to gain his trust by revealing an assassin in a nearby bush. As the assailant rushes to Chrom, Lucina cuts them down. However, a second assassin was in waiting and Lucina trips on blade of the first assassin. She dodges by a hair's breath, but her mask is cut and her hair is unfurled, revealing to Chrom and Robin that she is a woman. The trio immediately rushes back into the castle as a cult of the Fell Dragon, the Grimleal, has invaded the castle and intends on assassinating Emmeryn, which they succeeded in doing so in her original timeline. Lucina assists them in protecting her and tells Chrom that Panne is an ally to be trusted. The battle ends with the death of Validar, the cult leader of the Grimleal, and Emmeryn still alive. Believing that saving Emmeryn would prevent the ruinous future, Lucina departs. Tragically, Emmeryn would eventually surrender herself to Plegia as a means of parlaying with the Mad King, leading to her sacrificing herself in exchange for her brother's life, much to Lucina's horror that the future is still on its perilous track.

With Emmeryn's sacrifice, much of the Plegian army loses the will to fight for the Mad King. Chrom continues to fight for her legacy to preserve the peace of all of Ylisse. With the fall of the Mad King, peace is restored to the continent and with the void left behind by Emmeryn, Chrom ascends, becoming the new Exalt of Ylisse. Ylisse would see two years of peace under the reign of Chrom. In that time, Chrom is married and welcome his first born into the world. He named his daughter Lucina and she bears the Brand of the Exalt on her left eye.

Conquest of Valm[]

The peace comes to an abrupt end when the Valmese empire from across the sea launches an invasion with the intent of conquering Ylisse. To combat the looming invasion, Chrom seeks the assistance of Plegia under the rule of Validar. Plegia offers to give the Shepherds boats to combat the Valmese Empire and offers them respite on Carrion Isle before launching the next day. That night, the Shepherds are ambushed by Risen. While most are dispatched, one manages to sneak up on Chrom, forcing Lucina to intervene and save him.

In the aftermath, Lucina slips with her façade, accidentally referring to Chrom as "father". Having been forced to contain herself for so long, Lucina finally reveals that she is Chrom's daughter. To prove her legitimacy, she has Chrom look at her eye which has the same Brand of the Exalt his daughter has. Overcome with emotion, she begins to cry but Chrom warmly wipes away her tears. Lucina finally embraces her long lost father, happy to be formally reunited with him. Aside from the village maiden, Lucina is able to reunite with her mother, assuring them that her present infant self is still safely back at the castle.

She enlightens the Shepherds with the dire news of the apocalyptic future she originally hails from. She asks the Shepherds to help stop the resurrection of the Fell Dragon. To ensure this will come to pass, Lucina joins the Shepherds and resolves to fight on as "Lucina" as a memento to her beloved parents who gifted the name to her.

Lucina participates throughout the campaign in Valm. After capturing Fort Steiger from the Valmese, Chrom receives alarming news that the forces up to the north were crushed by Walhart's forces, and the forces to the south were destroyed by Yen'fay's forces. When Khan Basilio volunteers to stall Walhart's army while Chrom and Robin's troops attack Yen'fay, Lucina steps in to try and stop him since, in her timeline, Basilio perished in that very same battle. Nevertheless, Basilio's resolve is stronger than Lucina's warning, though Flavia decides to go to increase his chances of survival. After Chrom suppress the Chon'sin army, Flavia returns and informs the Shepherds that Basilio perished during his encounter with Walhart. Remembering his sacrifice, Chrom's army finally take down Walhart's forces, once and for all.

Fate of the World[]

After preventing Walhart's conquest, Validar sends a message to Chrom so he can give the final gemstone for the Fire Emblem. On the way to the castle, Lucina sees what appears to be Grima's remains, telling Chrom that Grima must not be resurrected in this timeline. Upon reaching Plegia's castle, Validar betrays the group and tries to seize the Fire Emblem from Chrom, forcing them to flee. Chrom, Robin, and Lucina nearly make it out of the castle, but Validar warps in and weakens Chrom. Validar orders Robin to seize the Fire Emblem and Robin does against their will. This event reveals to Lucina that it was likely Robin, under the control of some malevolent force, who killed Chrom in her timeline.

After escaping the castle, Lucina reluctantly decides to kill Robin to prevent this, who can choose to accept her judgement or not. Regardless of Robin's choice, as she is about to kill Robin, Chrom, who watching the scene unfold steps in and stops her. Lucina does her best to convince her father that killing Robin is for the greater good, but Chrom places his trust in Robin, and Lucina puts her faith in their bond to overcome what lies in the future. Circumstances of this encounter slightly change if she is married to a male Robin or is the daughter of a female Robin. In both encounters, she stops herself, unable to follow through with her judgement as she cannot bring herself to kill her beloved husband or mother.

Later at The Dragon's Table, much to Lucina's horror, she witnesses Robin impale Chrom with a bolt of lightning, fulfilling the sequence of events of the past. However, this turned out to be a clever ruse by Robin as they had foreseen the event in a premonition. Having taken countermeasures, including the revelation that Basilio had survived his fight against Walhart due to her warnings, Lucina finally believes that her actions are leading the future to change. With the death of Validar once more, the future finally seems to be saved.

However, a black figure warps into the Dragon's Table, taking on the visage of Robin. They reveal that they are indeed Robin, one from the same future as Lucina, who lost control of their body to Grima. Though the flow of time had severely weakened him, having spent two years collecting power, he is finally able to unleash his powers once more. Grima destroys the Dragon's Table, hoping to bury the Shepherds as he leaves to regain the last remaining vestiges of his power before restarting his destruction of humanity in the present.

Before the temple collapsed, Robin was able to retake the Fire Emblem from Validar's corpse. Lucina would witness her father evoke the Awakening to gain Naga's blessing in order to defeat Grima. Lead by Chrom and Robin, Lucina joins them as they fight on the back of Grima with the intent of destroying his vessel. The battle ends with either Chrom dealing the final blow, thus sealing the Fell Dragon for a thousand years, or Robin destroying the vessel, ending the Fell Dragon once and for all at the cost of their life.

With the present timeline's future safe from the Fell Dragon, Lucina decides to depart Ylisse in her solo ending. Before her departure, she went to her present, infant self and whispered that her future would be happier than hers. Many would speculate that she either began wandering the present world or returned to her original future. However, neither of these were ever confirmed.

The Future Past[]

Taking place in another parallel future to her own, Grima's destruction has wiped out nearly all of humanity save the children of the Shepherds desperately trying to assemble the five gemstones and Fire Emblem in order to gain the power of the latter. Having sent most of them to fulfill this mission, Lucina is forced to patiently wait for their return with Tiki in Ylisstol, who was forced out of Mount Prism due to the Risen defiling the site. During their conversation, a cloaked figure attempts to kill Lucina but Tiki intercepts the attack and dies.

Lucina first rendezvous with Germone, Laurent, and Severa, who were able to recover the Fire Emblem with Argent still in it. Grima appears, taunting them while demanding the Fire Emblem. Refusing his demands, Grima unleashes his dragon form, bent on killing the children before they have a chance to stop him. As fate would have it, past versions of the Shepherds sent through time by a Naga from another world arrive just in time to protect Lucina and the other children.

A grueling battle ensues, but ultimately the Shepherds are able to severely weaken Grima. In desperation, Grima attempts to launch a lethal blow onto the Shepherds, but his vessel resists, sending the Shepherds back to their time. However, unbeknownst to Lucina and the other children present, the Shepherds had assisted the other children during their missions, allowing them to recover the four remaining gemstones and return to the capital. Upon their arrival and the assembly of the full Fire Emblem, Grima still gloats that even with the completed Emblem, they would need to go to Mount Prism to give Lucina the power of the covenant. However the spirit of Tiki appears, revealing that Mount Prism was merely a fixture due to Naga's presence. In reality, Naga's blessing comes from the location of her greatest influence. By defiling Mount Prism and leaving Tiki's corpse in Ylisstol, it became the new holiest site in the world as she has become the new Naga of the world. Lucina enacts the Awakening, earning Tiki's blessing and giving her the power to seal Grima away. In the aftermath of the battle, Lucina thanks her stalwart comrades and silently thanks her parents for giving her aid in her time of need.

Half a year later, the world begins to rebuild from Grima's destruction. Lucina formally ascends to the role of Exalt. She establishes "Chrom's New Shepherds" in tribute of her father with most of the Shepherd's children being among the first members of the group. Though some remnants of the Risen remain, Lucina is confident that they can finish the job. Lucina looks to the sky and wonders if her father can see the peaceful world and departs. From the afterlife, the spirit of Chrom attests that the world is as it should be with confirmation from Robin, now freed from Grima's influence.

Fire Emblem Fates[]

Lucina makes an appearance in Fates, and requires her amiibo in order to be playable. When she appears in My Castle for the first time, she introduces herself to Corrin and remarks excitedly towards their castle and kind comrades. She claims that she is a lost child and that she suddenly arrived at their castle after becoming lost in a lonely road, though she states that she is used to being in unfamiliar places. She asks for Corrin's name and expresses a nostalgic feeling towards them. She then offers them one of two accessories which the player chooses, a Bear Hat or her Butterfly Mask, as a token of her appreciation and promises to meet them again should they ever need her, no matter how far she travels.

During her second appearance, she notes about her experiences in Super Smash Bros. and challenges Corrin to test their power and resolve. If Odin, Laslow, or Selena are present and face her, she calls them by their real names - Owain, Inigo, and Severa respectively - and all four are surprised to see each other again. However, Odin, Laslow, and Selena can tell that this Lucina is not their Lucina, but rather a facsimile from the world of Smash Bros. After the battle, Lucina and Corrin remark on each other's power and Lucina requests to join Corrin's party. While Corrin fears that Lucina would not approve of the path they have chosen, Lucina reassures them that during their fight, she realized that they are pursuing the same justice as she is and asks them not to falter in this matter. They concede and happily welcome Lucina into the army, where she becomes a playable character for the rest of the current game.

Fire Emblem Engage[]

Lucina appears in Engage as one of the twelve Emblems of Elyos and she dwells within the Ring of the Princess Exalt. Her ring helped contribute to the defeat of the Fell Dragon, Sombron. When the Emblem Rings were distributed across Elyos, her ring was one of the six retained by Lythos and stored in the castle's Ring Vault. Shortly after Alear awoke after their 1000 year slumber, Elusia invaded Lythos Castle, stealing the Ring. Having fallen into the clutches of the Fell Dragon, her ring was corrupted. He ring first was utilized by the Elusian Princess, Hortensia on her assault of Brodia. Alear was able to repel her, but Hortensia was able to hold onto the Ring. After Sombron's revival, Elusia's Crown Princess Ivy was able to steal her ring and delivered it to Alear at the Shadowy Moor. Grateful for her assistance, Alear was able to purify the ring, evoking Emblem Lucina from the ring.

Fire Emblem Heroes[]

Under her masked Marth persona, Lucina serves as the guide for all Heroes who fall into the chaotic storm called the Tempest. By guiding them through the Tempest, the storm becomes progressively weaker until the Heroes are sent back to their world when it calms.

Personality[]

Lucina is a strong willed, pragmatic, and serious woman, who is determined to defy fate to alter the dark future she came from. She admires historical figures and her ancestors, showing extreme reverence to her father, and trying to emulate how she thought her ancestor Marth acted, to lend her the strength she needed. Due to the countless deaths and horrific events of the future, she dislikes any form of death, even "noble" ones. Her stoic personality and lacking sense of humor are results of her feeling responsible for the surviving children of Shepherds, so being their leader, she believes there's no place for herself to lighten up. She cares for comrades deeply and has a sense of justice. Lucina also is humble of her swordsmanship. Despite being noted to be a very skilled fighter by the likes of Chrom and Basilio, she feels that she pales in comparison to them and even doubts if she was worthy to use the name of Marth despite their many similarities.

Her main motivations come from her love for her parents, especially Chrom. Lucina is willing to do whatever it takes to see that Chrom stays alive, even if it means going against her wish for no needless deaths. Nevertheless, she is obedient to her father and puts her trust in his judgements, showing a strong bond of trust with him. Bearing a keen resemblance to Marth, it even leads to her being mistaken as him by Tiki when she is introduced, with the latter remarking that her involuntary actions when helping others further likens her to Marth himself. Furthering that point, she even speaks in a very formal and polite manner more reminiscent of him, contrasting her father. Despite that, she seems to have inherited some of her father's traits as well, as some of her quotes implies that she has his habit of breaking things when practicing.

Like her father, she has a strong belief in fate and initially believed that it was possible to change it. Many of her initial attempts at changing fate was met with mere temporary changes, but ultimately resulted in similar results as in her time. This partially influenced her to become much more drastic in reinforcing the fates of Chrom's allies, even against the will of her father in one particular instance. However, upon witnessing the literal change of fate by Chrom and Robin, her resolve was renewed and that she truly would be able to alter destiny with the help of Chrom and his allies.

As a result of her childhood tragedies, Lucina desperately tries to reclaim as much lost time she had with her parents with their younger versions of the current timeline. She resolves herself to quietly depart from her present parents once peace has been restored to the world as to not take away from her present self. To her relief, both assure her that they would always welcome her with open arms. In some of her endings, especially her solo ending, she follows through and departs without a trace. She treasures her Falchion because of it being the last possession left behind by her father, as she gets angered at her sibling using it to cut apples.

She also has a paranoid streak. Said behavior goes so far as to be paranoid of Female Robin if she is not her mother, because of her close relationship with Chrom, only to irrationally demand for Robin to fall in love with her father when the former claims to not consider him gallant, much to their mutual confusion.

Despite her serious and stoic persona, Lucina has light and unintentionally goofy moments around the ones she is close with, especially her parents and sibling. One of her most bizarre traits is her odd taste for fashion, as it is shown most prominently in her supports with her mother, where she goes from purchasing a dress featuring pictures of Emmeryn to attempting to pick several other options while shopping with her (which goes from uncommon to literally being only strings). This is further proven by the fact that she wears bizarre Groucho Marx glasses in the official Awakening comics and drama CDs, and buys and owns numerous bear hats in both the drama CDs, and in her appearance in Fates. In Engage, Emblem Lucina's taste for fashion is further displayed when she excitedly remarks to Anna in a Bond Conversation that she loves a selection of shirts with Anna's face on them, and that she would buy ten even though Anna wasn't happy with how the shirts had turned out.

Lucina has a rather dry sense of humor, and in her Awakening profile is described as the least likely to get a joke out of everyone in the Shepherds. However, her sense of humor and what she personally finds funny can be disarming to others. In Engage, when Jade asks for feedback on one of her novels, Lucina says she cracked up at a scene that Jade had intended to be emotional, and in a subsequent conversation, Lucina again surprises Jade by remarking that she found the ending hysterical when it wasn't meant to be.

Like the other children units, Lucina inherits stats and skills from her parents. The formula for her actual base stats are the "[(mother's current stats - mother's class base stats) + (Chrom's current stats - Chrom's class base stats) + Lucina's absolute base stats] divided by 3, then added to the child's class base stats.

Lucina is blessed with the title of Lord, making her an offensive force for the army. Regardless of who her mother is, Lucina has similar growth rates to her father, leading to high Strength, Skill, and Speed. With the proper mother, Lucina can outpace her father in some categories. She also starts off with Aether, making her a deadly unit from the start. However unlike most children, due to her mandatory recruitment half-way through the story, she may not start off as spectacularly as the other children, but she will catch up and eventually exceed most of them.

Like Chrom, Lucina as a Great Lord will give her a ranged option of Javelins while boosting her high stat caps. She will also eventually learn Rightful King to boost her skill activation. Also like Chrom, Lucina should remain a Great Lord once she has built the necessary skills. If Lucina becomes the mother of Morgan, she will always pass down Aether to her. She will always have Aether even if Chrom does not.

Lucina also has a personal weapon, the Parallel Falchion. When initially recruited, Lucina's Falchion trumps Chrom's version with 7 more Might and 5 more Critical. It also has the ability to heal her for 20 HP if used as an item, so she never needs Vulneraries or Concoctions so long as she is in a sword-wielding class. Lastly, her Falchion has the property of dealing effective damage against Dragon units like Chrom's Falchion, but it also starts off with the ability to deal effective damage to Grima, making Lucina a very useful unit for the Endgame as well as The Future Past 3. However, once Chrom's Exalted Falchion is unlocked, Lucina's Falchion will be slightly inferior. Nevertheless, it should be Lucina's weapon of choice for the majority of the game. It also has unlimited durability, like Chrom's Falchion and Exalted Falchion.

Inheritance and Reclassing[]

Lucina is the first child unit that is recruited. Unlike the others, her recruitment is mandatory at the end of Chapter 13. This means that, unlike the rest, Lucina does not have the luxury of letting the player have time to decide what skills for her to inherit after extensive reclassing and level grinding. Thankfully, her father will always pass down Aether and her mother's reclassing options are all available to her so there is no need to panic if she does not inherit the skill from her mother that the player may want.

  • Chrom: As Lucina's mandatory father, she shares all of his classes. Much like her father she adopts his Cavalier and Archer reclass options. Much like him, Cavalier gives Discipline which can help boost her weapon ranks, namely Lances, so she can start using them quickly. The Cavalier's promotions, Great Knight and Paladin offer Lucina some skills worth considering, but ultimately Aegis from Paladin works the best out of the lot to build off of Rightful King. Dual Guard+ can be considered as well for usage until Lucina can grab other skills from her classes inherited from her mother. Luna normally would be a great skill for her to learn, but with Aether, Lucina is better off with the compounded attack skill. From the Archer line, Lucina can be a good Sniper, as Aegis will protect her from Tome, Bow and Dragonstone attacks, and has a very high Skill cap to allow her to activate her skills more frequently. Lucina will also always inherit Aether, regardless of what Chrom's last skill is.
  • Robin: Robin, due to her wide variety of Asset and Flaw combinations, affects Lucina's stats in very strange ways. As such, there is no true way to gauge how her stats will run with Robin as her mother. Nevertheless, Robin will give Lucina a good boost in whatever stat mods she passes down. Robin passes down her class freedom, allowing Lucina to reclass into all possible normal female classes and the exclusive Tactician class. She will only be able to become a Thief, Dark Mage, and Mercenary if she is the daughter of Robin. Tactician gives her Veteran to aid in level grinding and Ignis as an attacking option, though she already has Aether. She does have the option to equip both, increasing the probability that at least one activates. Mercenary can give Armsthrift if you need to preserve stronger weapons for her. Though Parallel Falchion never loses durability, other more powerful weapons, namely Regalia, Brave weapons, and forged weapons, can be preserved using this skill. Lucina will make an excellent Hero with Aether giving her a solid niche over a Chrom fathered Inigo. The Dark Mage class provides only one new promotion, Sorcerer. Depending on the stat inheritance from Robin, Lucina can make a decent Sorcerer. Vengeance and Tomebreaker are good skills for Lucina to adopt, but she's better off with other skills unless she has poor defenses to abuse Vengeance or needs the boost to avoid magic. Lastly, Thief can give Movement +1 for added movement range and Acrobat from the Trickster class for good terrain mobility. All other of the best skills to grab are explained below from her other mothers since she receives all of them as the daughter of Robin. Due to having access to all female classes, Lucina can also become a Rally unit if needed.
  • Sully: Sully gives Lucina a good balance of stat boosts though her Defense is slightly lacking, but this drop is only a -1 difference. Magic and Resistance have no modifiers and Strength, Speed, Skill, and Luck gain good boosts. All-in-all, Sully is a great mother for Lucina stat wise. Sully passes down Myrmidon and Wyvern Rider. Among the best skills for Lucina to grab from her maternal inheritance are Vantage from the Myrmidon class for Lucina to attack, and possibly kill, enemies when her health is low before they can kill her, Swordfaire from the Swordmaster class for added sword strength, Pass from the Assassin class to help swarm units, and Lancebreaker and Swordbreaker from the Wyvern Rider reclassing's to make her a good unit-killer. As she can learn Rightful King from her Great Lord class, it can be combined with Lethality to have a greatly increased chance of pulling off that skill.
  • Sumia: Sumia boosts Lucina's Speed the most out of all of her mother candidates and gives her a good stat boost in Luck, Magic, and Resistance. She will have a slight drop in Defense caps and no boost to her Strength, but Lucina should be just fine as the daughter of Sumia. Sumia passes down Pegasus Knight, Knight, and Cleric. Among the best skills for Lucina to grab from her maternal inheritance are Galeforce from the Dark Flier class to make her a better map clearing unit. As a General, she can learn Pavise, which will compliment her Rightful King and Aegis, making her a very powerful defensive unit if she is swarmed. As a War Cleric, she can learn Renewal, which helps her restore lost health if she takes any.
  • Maribelle: Maribelle gives Lucina a high boost in Luck and a good boost in Magic, Skill, Speed, and Resistance. However she loses Strength and Defense in return, with Defense taking a serious hit to its cap. Lucina's stat inheritance is probably the least suited to improve her stats the right way as much as the rest of the mothers possibly could but still Maribelle does have her merits to make Lucina a great unit. Maribelle passes down Troubadour, Mage, and Pegasus Knight. Among the best skills for Lucina to grab from her maternal inheritance are Lifetaker from the Dark Knight class for a stronger regenerative skill, especially if Aether fails to activate, Renewal for a slightly weaker, but more guaranteed regeneration, Dual Support+ from the Valkyrie class for a good boost for her Dual Support bonuses, and Galeforce from Dark Flier.
  • Olivia: Olivia gives Lucina a good balance of stats aside from some slightly lowered Defense and Resistance. Out of all the mothers, Olivia is the only one that has a skill that Lucina cannot learn otherwise, Luck +4. While not a spectacular skill, Lucina will most likely inherit this skill unless the player opts to reclass and level grind Olivia before starting Chapter 13. Olivia passes down the Myrmidon and Pegasus Knight class lines. Among the best skills for Lucina to grab from her maternal inheritance are Vantage from the Myrmidon class, Swordfaire from Swordmaster, Pass from Assassin, and Galeforce from Dark Flier. Base Set[]

Lucina is one of many Falchion units that exist in Heroes. Lucina is the most offensively safe Falchion user and is comparative to Marth, having enough speed to avoid being double attacked while having just slightly more Atk than him to round out her offenses. She does lack the bulk of Alm and Chrom, but her speed helps to prevent most doubles from enemies. Falchion makes her great against Dragon units though she does struggle against some dragons depending on their build. It also holds a Renewal 2 effect. This effect is boosted when her refine to Renewal 3 plus a Rainbow Bond 2 skill effect, boosting all four of her stats by 4, serving her well when she is close to allies.

Lucina's other skills include Aether which has a very slow cooldown, but the added damage and healing makes it a deadly skill when it activates. Defiant Speed gives her +7 Spd when under 50%, which can push her to 40, but she lacks the bulk to maintain the effect, even with the regen from her Falchion. Finally, she has Spur Atk, boosting an adjacent ally's Atk during battle, giving her the ability to aid an ally who is giving her the Bond boost. Overall, Lucina's starting kit is rather lackluster, but she can be easily improved.

Counters[]

Lucina is easily dispatched by Red and Blue mages as her Res is her weakest stat. Units that can offset her Spd through skills such as Bold Fighter/Vengeful Fighter and Swordbreaker are particularly troubling counters for her, especially since most are lower tier character. While she has advantages against Blue dragons, some, like Nowi, will occasionally carry Triangle Adept to boost their color advantage over her to reduce the impact of her Falchion effectiveness.

Skill Inheritance[]

Lucina can acquire Dragon Fang/Draconic Aura since her Atk is strong enough to fuel both skills and deal higher damage while having a faster cooldown than Aether. Moonbow or her natural Luna are also worthy alternatives. Most consider running Reciprocal Aid as it makes her a pseudo-healer with her self-regeneration, though Reposition is a standard, general usage skill just for the unit placement manipulation.

Lucina can run a plethora of other skills to suit her needs as an offensive focused character. Skill A is commonly run with Fury, as the flat stat boost serves her well while the after battle damage is healed by Falchion. Giving her a Bond skill also stacks on top of her Refined Falchion, making them a great choice. Skill B ranges from Renewal to heal her for 20 HP every two turns, though Quick Riposte and Wrath are two non-budget B skills that assist her in the long-run. Her Spd is also high enough to work Desperation with effectiveness. Skill C is flexible and can suit the players needs. Given that Lucina wants to stick close to allies to use her Bond Skill, taking a better Spur skill like Spur Resistance is preferred though Drive skills work with similar results.

Spring Lucina was introduced against few competitors save Linde for offensive Blue mage. Unfortunately, with time, many better Blue mages have entered the fray, leaving Spring Lucina with her limited availability a very small niche unit. She has great Spd as expected of a unit of her type. Unfortunately, she has semi-low Atk which can be patched with proper skill inheritance and giving her a Bladetome, but she is outclassed by several units released after her in this regard. Her main advantage over her competitors is the fact that her ideal build is fairly low investment and is still a competent unit if only powercrept by time.

Blue Egg is her weapon, which can be refined, which heals her for 4 HP after battle when she initiates an attack. Rally Speed grants +4 Spd to an ally when used on them, which is a minimal boost, but stronger versions have come out since. Spring Lucina is the first unit to carry a dual Blow skill, namely the coveted Swift Sparrow, increasing her Atk/Spd by 4 when initiating, giving her the power boost to deal better damage and push her Spd to double more units. Seal Resistance applies a -7 Res penalty after combat.

Counters[]

Spring Lucina’s low Atk means that any Blue or Green with decent magical bulk can survive a blow. Greens with Distant Counter or Green ranged units are particularly troublesome for her. Hector, Gunnthrá , and Deirdre are among her strongest counters. She is vulnerable to both Ploys and Panics as her Res and HP respectively are well out of range for the most common users. She is also weak to Anti-Mage units such as Felicia, Halloween Sakura, and Fjorm, all of whom are designed to soak her hits and retaliate.

Skill Inheritance[]

Spring Lucina’s natural access to Swift Sparrow automatically makes her a candidate for an exceptional budget build unit. Draw Back is a natural fit for most mages as it allows unit placement manipulation while keeping her out of danger. Glimmer takes any buffs on her to strengthen her damage output. Desperation ensures immediate follow-ups so long as she is in her damage threshold. Skill C is flexible and can take just about any support skill that the team needs in terms of synergy.

Blárblade is her only non-budget inheritance that grants her the biggest boost to match the likes of the high tier Blue Mages, however even then her main competitors function even better with the tome than she does. Other non-budget options include Chill Resistance lower’s the Res of the enemy with the highest Res stat, allowing her to deal more damage and either Attack Wave skill for the self-buff it provides.

Masked Marth is essentially a Free to Play Lucina, having the exact same stat spread as a Neutral Boon/Bane Lucina. Her only difference is a complete lack of skills in her starting kit, only having Falchion. This further makes her similar to Lucina as she has the exact same Renewal 2 effect plus effectiveness to Dragons. This is further pushed to Renewal 3 plus a Rainbow Bond effect when refined.

The only notable difference between Masked Marth and Lucina is that Masked Marth cannot be summoned with a Boon/Bane, and will require Trait Fruit to reach an ideal stat spread. Brave Lucina takes a lance to the battlefield with solid Atk and Spd, making her a great offensive unit. Her only downside is her low Res, but that's a pretty common weakness which is only a small detriment to her main role on a team. She is fairly capable as an offensive unit, but she mainly shines as one of the strongest Support units in the game.

Geirskögul gave her a Def+3 boost and had somewhat of a lackluster effect of giving a Atk/Spd +3 buff to any ally within two spaces of her during combat if they wield any physical weapon. This does give her synergy even on non-infantry teams but the boost is small and has minimal bonuses as a result unless it helps push an ally to double an opponent or escape being doubled themselves. Two years after her release, alongside her fellow Choose Your Legends 1 heroes, Brave Lucina received a Weapon Refine that pushed her into the top tier of Support units. Not only does she gain the ability to slay dragons and adds +3 Def/Res as well to her buffs, but if an enemy initiates combat on her allies within two spaces of herself, they also gain a special cooldown acceleration effect, effectively granting a Rainbow version of the Breath skills on even units who could not normally acquire the skill, namely Cavalry and Flying units so long as they are physical units.

Sadly, while she can help accelerate her allies cooldown, Brave Lucina cannot make usage of the effect, thus her Aether remains at an unaccelerated 5 attack cooldown. Brave Lucina's remaining kit includes Steady Blow, increasing the Atk/Def of her own initiated attacks by 4 and Drive Speed, giving her allies 3 additional Spd during combat, thus granting a +6 Spd boost to her allies during combat.

Counters[]

Brave Lucina's magical bulk is lacking, leaving her extremely vulnerable to any sort of magic oriented unit like Reinhardt, Nino, and Lewyn. Standard Greens also check her incredibly well such as Brave Ike, Hector, and Surtr.

Skill Inheritance[]

Reposition is Brave Lucina's best supportive option overall for all of her potential sets for its ability to position allies in front of her to bait a unit or to pull them out of danger if needed. Moonbow charges much faster and is a more reliable option than Aether's lengthy cooldown. Fury will give her a nice stat boost so she can have an even better performance in battle whenever she is forced to. Chill skills will help her allies by reducing key stats for their match-ups. Chill Attack has the most universal application, though since her buffs will only affect physical units, Chill Defense works just as well.

Brave Lucina can take Reciprocal Aid and Renewal to make her a multi-purpose utility unit by giving her the option to pseudo-heal and give herself some much needed healing if needed.

If looking to maximize Brave Lucina's offensive prowess, common skills like Swift Sparrow and Wrath combo together well to increase initiated damage with the former and speed up cooldowns with the latter. Lucina also has just enough physical bulk to safely run defensive oriented skills like Steady Breath and Quick Riposte/Guard combo. Reposition is still a must.

Base Set[]

Legendary Lucina is the first Blue Bow unit in the game and has one of the most quirky offensive skill sets. She can utilize this to maximum efficiency thanks to her focus on pure offense, with high Atk and Spd, but trades this for low bulk, especially magic bulk. Her stat spread and innate skill kit establishes her as a player turn offensive character that can destroy a host of units with ease. She also makes for a dangerous defensive Arena Duel and Aether Raids unit due to the deceptive movement range, namely through her exclusive skill listed below. Thögn grants her an innate +3 Spd increase, bringing her neutral Spd to 41. Its main effect is a +4 boost to her four main stats when initiating against any close range unit, virtually bringing her high enough to double most of the unmerged cast while boosting damage to boot. Her unique skill is her Support Skill Future Vision, an enhanced version of Swap, switching places with an ally and refreshing herself immediately to move again. This gives her a deceptively large movement range if her allies are placed accordingly to utilize this skill. Swift Sparrow further pushes her offense, essentially guaranteeing the ability to double any close combat unit while increasing her damage on initiation. Wings of Mercy allows her to teleport to injured allies, further increasing her mobility while assisting allies. Distant Guard grants nearby allies a Distant Def 2 effect, giving her team synergy.

Counters[]

While having a Blue color gives Legendary Lucina advantages against common Reds, it puts her into the general Weapon Triangle, leaving her vulnerable to Greens, ones that have the physical bulk to take her attacks. Units like Brave Ike, Surtr, and Amelia can easily take her attacks and retaliate in their phase. Distant Counter wielding bulky greens like Hector, Fallen Male Robin, and Fae are also her biggest weakness as they can immediately counter after soaking a hit. The latter two are especially strong counters, alongside Myrrh as they target her Res. Wary Fighter forces her to fire a single attack until she or an ally can push them out of the skill’s range, which most common users can maintain. While Thögn does gain a boost from dragon units, they in turn target her much lower Res.

Skill Inheritance[]

Legendary Lucina’s focus on pure offense should be capitalized in her skill inheritance. Moonbow or Luna helps her against the few bulky units that can survive against her already high damage and doubling potential. Desperation is a standard hyper offense Skill B to ensure her follow-up happens immediately. Attack Speed Link is a quirky Skill B that gives her, as well as her ally, a +6 Atk/Spd buff upon using her Future Vision skill, giving her the self means to buff her offense in preparation for her attack. It also allows refresher/healing units to trigger the skill and also makes an interesting dynamic with Legendary Azura and her ability to spread the +6 stat buff to all four of her main stats. Skill C is flexible, though she values either Spd Wave or Atk Wave skills for another means of self-buffing in preparation to attack.

Lucina's Introduction during her Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U reveal.

Lucina is a newcomer in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Lucina's playstyle and moveset is the same as Marth's, focusing on great speed and mobility along with strong close range combat, but lacks ranged moves. However, while Marth's Falchion deals more damage at the tip of the sword, Lucina's Falchion does not deal bonus damage and has even damage output throughout the blade. She is slightly smaller than Marth, giving her a slightly smaller hurtbox, however her range is also slightly shorter. Yū Kobayashi and Laura Bailey reprise their roles as Lucina's voice.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U[]

Lucina is an unlockable character in both versions of Super Smash Bros. 4. She can be unlocked in the 3DS version once Marth clears Classic Mode on any difficulty or after playing 40 Smash matches. In the Wii U version, she is unlocked once Classic mode is cleared by any character on at least on Intensity 5.5 or 30 Smash matches have been played. Lucina dons her signature mask in her down taunt pose and the same mask appears on Kirby if he copies her ability, however she does not permanently wear the mask during a match. Lucina's palette swaps are references to several characters in Fire Emblem Awakening, namely Nowi, Cherche, Cordelia, Tiki, Lissa, Tharja, and Sumia.

According to the director of the Super Smash Bros. series, Masahiro Sakurai, Lucina was originally planned as an alternate costume for Marth, but was eventually changed to be her own separate character with slight differences from Marth.

Lucina returns in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Lucina is now an "Echo Fighter" of Marth due to sharing the same moveset properties as him. However, she is still considered a wholly separate character from him due to how damage is distributed throughout their respective weapons.

Special Moveset[]

(Note: All custom special move variants are exclusive to Smash 4.)

  • Neutral Special - Shield Breaker: Lucina thrusts her sword into her opponent like her standard attack animation in Awakening. The move does heavy shield damage, capable of nearly breaking a full shield even when uncharged. The longer the move is charged, the more damage, shield damage, and knockback it inflicts, being stronger than even her forward smash at full charge. At full charge, it will break any non-perfect shield. Lucina is unable to move during this move as she charges it and it cannot be stored for later use.
    • Custom Neutral Special 1 - Storm Thrust: Lucina's thrusting animation gains a small whirlwind in front of her, giving the attack a strong push effect in exchange for severely reduced damage.
    • Custom Neutral Special 2 - Dashing Assault/Assault Dash: Lucina gains a lunging property to her thrust, but the attack has reduced damage including to shields. The attack itself deals slightly more damage if used in the air.
  • Side Special - Dancing Blade: Lucina performs a series of different slashes depending on the button input by the player. After performing the standard Side Special input, the player can press the special button while pressing up, down, or forward, up to 4 attacks. With all the different move variations, Lucina can perform 18 different versions of the Dancing Blade move. High variations are outlined with blue streaks, middle variations are outlined with red streaks, and low variations are outlined with green streaks. Lucina's Dancing Blade lacks a sourspot and tipper sweetspot unlike Marth's version. While this makes the finishing slashes deliver drastically less knockback compared to the tipper finishers of Marth, the damage output and knockback are consistent as a result, making the move overall much more versatile and easier to use.
    • Custom Side Special 1 - Effortless Blade/Easy Combination: Lucina's combo is executed much quicker. However, it has low damage output and low knockback, and she cannot execute high or low variations, meaning only the neutral combination strikes are available.
    • Custom Side Special 2 - Heavy Blade/Heavy Combination: Lucina's combo is executed much slower but has higher damage and knockback. Due to the higher knockback, all four strikes link together poorly.
  • Up Special - Dolphin Slash: Lucina performs a near-instant leaping vertical slash that launches her almost straight up while sending opponents caught outward. However, it has little horizontal movement making it more difficult to recover from the sides of the screen.
    • Custom Up Special 1 - Crescent Slash: Lucina propels herself with a curving diagonal trajectory, and deals more damage late into the move rather than earlier. In exchange, she has lower vertical distance and more landing lag.
    • Custom Up Special 2 - Dolphin Jump/Dolphin High Jump: Lucina propels herself much higher than its base form, however she can only ascend directly upward, and the move does not deal any damage.
  • Down Special - Counter: Lucina grabs her Falchion with both hands and takes a defensive pose similar to her official render art while she flashes for a brief instant. If any character attacks her with a non-projectile move up close during the flash, Lucina will retaliate with a fast outward strike and reflect the damage for 1.2x the amount she would have received. Lucina can counter/negate items thrown at her using this move, however projectiles with explosive properties cannot be reflected and will detonate on her if she tries to reflect these.
    • Custom Down Special 1 - Easy Counter: Lucina's counter window lasts significantly longer but has a lowered damage multiplier (x0.7) and low knockback.
    • Custom Down Special 2 - Iai Counter: Lucina's counter window lasts for a shorter amount of time and has a slightly longer recovery period. However, it starts up almost instantly, has a higher damage multiplier (1.3x), and much higher knockback. Upon a successful counter, Lucina will move past her target in a single stroke, sending them in the opposite direction.
  • Final Smash - Critical Hit: Lucina raises her Falchion then quickly rushes forward. She will only hit the first enemy she comes into contact with and will send them flying with a single, powerful blow. A health meter similar to the one seen in Awakening appears above the opponent and quickly depletes to zero. If there are multiple enemies nearby the enemy hit, the move will affect all of those close by. Lucina also says "Time to change fate!" ("運命を変えます!" (Unmei o kae masu!) lit. "I will change destiny!" in the Japanese version.) Like Marth's version of the move, Lucina's has incredible knockback, almost guaranteed to KO an opponent even at 0% on a medium sized stage unless there are walls or ceiling to disrupt the trajectory.

Her Shield Breaker move lets her attack opponents and break their shields at the same time. Charge it fully to shatter shields in one hit.

Even if their damage is low, this strike is powerful enough to take out foes with a single hit. Just make sure you don't dash off the stage when you use it in midair!

Palutena's Guidance[]

Palutena's Guidance is featured in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and is similar to Snake's Codec in Brawl. Pit holds a special conversation with Palutena and Viridi to comment on one of Pit's opponents, giving him helpful tips about their strengths and weaknesses. This feature is based on the numerous chapter dialogue in Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Pit: That lady's moves are awfully similar to Marth's.
Palutena: That's Lucina. She used to introduce herself as Marth so certain similarities seem inevitable.
Pit: What? She stole someone's identity?
Viridi: Well it wasn't quite like that.
Palutena: Marth had become a legend by her time—the Hero-King. So Lucina took that name to bolster the morale of her own army. Think of it as a symbol of hope in the depths of despair.
Pit: That's pretty deep.
Viridi: You can't tell by looking at her, but I hear she's got a great sense of humor.
Pit: I'll try cracking a few jokes and see if that softens her up.
Palutena: The tip of her blade doesn't deal as much damage as Marth's. But her attacks are more balanced, even if they're not tremendously powerful.

Monster Hunter Frontier G[]

Lucina does not make a direct appearance in the game. However, in a collaboration between Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem, a female armor set for both Blademasters and Gunners exists in the game that is based on Lucina's Lord outfit.

Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.[]

Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. is compatible with the Super Smash Bros. 4 amiibo figures of Fire Emblem characters. When scanned, a S.T.E.A.M. version of Lucina will appear in-game. Lucina wields her Parallel Falchion, leaping towards the enemy to strike them, and the Nidhogg bow. Her Special is a rush charge, going through any enemies in her path until she runs out of steam to move.

Lucina Lucina speaks of coming from the future but appears to come from some pseudo-medieval past. Whatever her origin, she is a woman driven to prevent some tragedy she believes is coming. She brings considerable martial skill to bear on her efforts.
Milton on Lucina Lucina's talk of a dark future that she has traveled from seems preposterous...but still gives me chills as if someone had walked on my grave. Come to think of it, if she is from the future, she may well have done so at some point...

Super Mario Maker[]

Lucina appears in Super Mario Maker as a special Mystery Mushroom character. She is unlocked either by completing a 100 Mario Challenge or scanning a Lucina amiibo.

Project X Zone 2[]

Lucina appears as a playable unit in Project X Zone 2 as a tag team unit with Chrom. She and Chrom first appear in the chapter "Prologue 5: The Fire Emblem", where they, along with Valkyrie, Yuri Lowell, and Flynn Scifo have to protect Tiki from the Risen and Kamuz's troops. The map is based on Divine Dragon Grounds from Fire Emblem Awakening. Yū Kobayashi reprises her role as Lucina's voice actress in-game.

She and Chrom appear to join the team permanently during "Chapter 20: The Power to Change Fate". After the player reaches the third room in the Great Tree, Kamuz reappears from a Fracture with a group of Risen and his own troops after a few rounds have passed. Chrom and Lucina follow shortly after, appearing next to the third stranded pod. They rescue the allies stuck in the pod, then join the team to fight Kamuz and seal the Summoning Gate.

Lucina appears in her base Lord class wielding her Parallel Falchion. Depending on the attack input, she uses a variety of different weapons.

  • Neutral - Lucina performs the attack animation of Aether, though the attack does not carry the effect it has in Awakening.
  • Left - Lucina equips a Levin Sword, performs a thrust into the opponent, then fires a bolt of lightning. She reequips her Parallel Falchion and performs a front flip slash.
  • Right - Lucina transforms into the Bride class and equips a Silver Lance and performs the Bride's Luna attack animation.
  • Up - Lucina stabs the opponent, then performs a rising slash similar to the one she performs in the ruined future cutscene in Awakening
  • Down - Lucina transforms into the Bride class and equips a Brave Bow and fires two shots
  • Cross Special 1 - Lucina equips a Levin Sword and fires off a bolt of lighting. She then transforms into the Bride Class, lunging at the enemy with Gradivus before handing it off to Chrom. After Chrom launches the enemy into the air, Lucina, back in her Lord class, and Chrom attack the enemy at the same time, creating the pose the two have on the box art of Awakening
  • Cross Special 2 - Lucina and Chrom lunge at the enemy. Lucina then transforms into the Bride class and equips an Astra bow, firing off 5 critical Astra strikes.

Bio[]

Chrom's daughter.

She traveled back in time from a ravaged future in which the revived Fell Dragon Grima has destroyed the world. In Lucina's world, Chrom was betrayed and slain by one of his comrades, and she intends to find the one responsible and prevent it from happening again.

In order to avoid becoming entangled in history, she started out wearing a mask and using the name of the ancient hero "Marth." However, Chrom gradually picked up on the truth about her.

Her strength of will is a great asset to her, though at times it manifests as pure stubbornness. She has a fierce devotion to refining her sword technique through daily practice, and like her father tends to wreak havoc on her surroundings in pursuit of this. She maintains a serious demeanor most of the time, yet on occasion the strangest things will prompt a laugh. She also has a fairly unique sense of fashion. While she views Chrom as someone to protect, she also reveres him as her beloved father and acts as a dutiful daughter to him.

Uses[]

Blue cards focus mainly on the player getting lots of Class-Changed Units, and the Exalted Descendant of Ylisse is an excellent example of this type of playstyle. Her Series 1 SR card has an ability that lets you draw two cards and then add a card from your hand back to the top of your deck, allowing you to avoid failed Supports. However, if she was Class-Changed, you instead draw three and add two to the deck in any order, meaning you get at least two guaranteed Supports. Your opponent also doesn't know what you added to the deck, so you can use this Skill and then end your turn, leaving them guessing as to what type of Support they'll be up against. Her Series 4 SR has similar functions at less cost. This version's Skill lets you choose which of the top two cards of your deck you draw at the beginning of each turn. The other card is discarded, but you'll always be getting something you'd rather have instead. Her S4SR also has a Skill that only takes effect while she is Class-Changed, which gives an extra 10 ATK to all Class-Changed Units you control as long as Lucina is in the Vanguard. Her low Cost cards are of course less useful, but still bring interesting things to the table. Her Cost 2 card, included in the Blue Starter Deck, doesn't really do much on its own, as its Skill provides a 10 ATK boost to herself and any Chrom you control...but only if you control a Chrom, making her more of a supporting card. Her Cost 1 cards are where it gets interesting. Both versions have an ability that reads "Always treat this card as if the name were also Marth." This means always - in the hand, the Retreat, as Supports - in other words, you can Level Up or Class-Change her into Marth cards for a surprise your opponent may not like, discard her for Marth Crits(or discard Marth cards for her crits), and, unfortunately, you can't Deploy a Marth while she's Deployed nor can you Deploy her while Marth is, also you will fail the Support check if she flips a Marth or vice versa. This ability doesn't carry over to her other cards, though, so once you Class-Change her she won't be considered Marth any more(unless you Class-Changed her into a Marth card just for the heck of it). Overall, Lucina has huge potential in decks that use Class-Changing a lot, even some non-Blue cards like the Green Micaiah and Elincia cards. Use her for increased consistency in your decks.

Etymology[]

Lucina may be named after Lucina, the Roman Goddess of childbirth. In ancient Roman religion and myth, Lucina safeguarded the lives of women in labor. Lucina was also an epithet for Juno. The name was generally taken to mean "she who brings children into the light" (Latin: lux, lucis, "light"), which may relate to how she lead the other second generation characters back into the past to save the world. Lucina can be pronounced with a hard "c", as in the Japanese version of Awakening, which comes from the name's Greek origins. The soft "c" version of Lucina derives from its Latin form and is used for all other releases of the game.

There are also several moths and butterflies that contains the word Lucina in their species names such as Dactyloceras lucina, Hypatopa lucina, and Hamearis lucina. These may be the origin of Lucina's butterfly motifs. These motifs could also relate to the "Butterfly Effect"; a time travel theory where changing minor events in the past would drastically alter the course of the future, which is of course relevant to the story of Awakening. These could also explain the scene in Awakening's intro video where shadows are chasing a glowing blue butterfly, representing Grima chasing Lucina from the future to the past.

'Marth' is a corruption of 'Mars,' the Roman god of war. The name is also a direct reference to Marth, the first lord of the series and Lucina's ancestor.

  • Lucina was voted the most popular female character in the Awakening Character Popularity Poll in Japan.
    • Lucina came in 9th in the Awakening Most Helpful Character poll in Japan.
    • Lucina and Male Robin were voted 8th most popular couple in the Awakening Couple Popularity Poll in Japan.
    • Lucina came in 2nd for females in the Heroes Choose Your Legends popularity poll. She had 42,875 votes. Her Masked Marth persona was placed in the poll as a separate character and came in 28th place for females. She had 5,470 votes. Considering that the poll included every single character in the franchise, this means Lucina is the highest scoring character of the Awakening portion and second most popular female character overall.
  • Because Chrom does not need to marry Sully, Sumia, Maribelle, Olivia, or the Female Robin—and Lucina must be recruited for story purposes—Lucina is the only child character whose determinate parent does not need to have an S-Support.
  • Lucina is the only child in Awakening with a fixed hair color and cannot inherit the hair color of her non-determinate parent.
  • Including her Parallel Falchion, and both Rapiers, Lucina can wield a total of 116 unique weapons provided Robin is her mother.
  • Lucina's birthday is the same day that Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance were first released in Japan.
  • If Lucina and Owain achieve an S-support, they will gain the title "Companion", on their character cards instead of "Husband/Wife" to prevent implications of incest. The title is also used if she achieves an S-support with Morgan if Inigo or Brady is his father (and Chrom is Inigo or Brady's father).
  • If Lucina is the daughter of Robin, Lucina will have the most amount of class options out of all characters in the game with a total of 35 (34 without Bride).
    • Because of this, Lucina is tied with Female Morgan for the most amount of skills learned in a single playthrough with 74 skills possible.
    • However, because Chrom's reclass options are all gender-neutral, Lucina is the only female child unit who cannot inherit male-exclusive class skills. She shares this trait (albeit gender-flipped) with Yarne.
  • Lucina's official artwork depicts her wielding the Falchion.
  • Her confession image is unique in that the background does not change to a bubbly pattern variant seen in most other confessions.
  • If Female Robin marries Chrom, Lucina will have both the Exalted Blood and Fell Dragon Blood. Lucina is one of four children who can possibly have this trait, the other 3 being both Morgans and Owain.
  • Lucina is the first Lord in the series to be fought as an enemy Lord. (This does not count Ike in Radiant Dawn as he is a Hero at the time).
  • When reclassed into a Dark Knight, Lucina will have the same hairstyle she did while under the disguise as Marth.
  • Although Lucina can use Counter in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, it is impossible for her to learn it in Awakening since it is a male exclusive skill and because Chrom cannot reclass into the Fighter classes. Even if he could learn it, Lucina will never inherit it since Chrom always passes Aether down to her.
    • Chrom himself gains the ability to use Counter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate despite the above discrepancies.
  • Lucina is the first unlockable character in the Super Smash Bros. series to be female, being unlockable in both versions of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U; all of the other unlockable characters, in addition to the ones from the past three games, are either male or gender-neutral (referring to Pokémon).
    • She is also the first clone character to be female; the majority of clone characters are male, with Pichu from Melee being gender-neutral.
    • This is changed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where all but the eight characters from the original Nintendo 64 game (out of a cast of 77, excluding DLC) are considered unlockable characters, including almost every female fighter (excluding Samus), as well as the addition of two female Echo Fighters.
  • Lucina is one of the few units whose status screen portrait changes at some point of the game, a trait she shares with Marth, Alm, Celica, Ike, Volke, Sothe, Julia, Micaiah, and Kris. Her change happens when her mask is broken before Chapter 6. Unlike most examples, Lucina's portrait changes when she's still an NPC.
  • Lucina's mask holds great symbolism. Butterflies have been known to symbolize Hope, Joy, and New Beginnings: all of which are aspects for which Lucina and the other second generation characters fight. It also symbolizes the element of time, which is reflected through their time travelling in game.
  • In both the drama CD and the manga, the mask was not her first choice for a disguise, as she initially intended to use a pair of massive glasses.
  • One of the two items that the player can receive from Lucina in Fates is the Bear Hat. She refers to it being totally cute which is a joke on Lucina's terrible fashion sense. The hat itself is a reference to the final Drama CD for Awakening. In it, Risen steal things that are beautiful and end up stealing Lucina's tiara. As most of the other second generation characters go to get it back, Lucina decides to go shopping for a replacement, accompanied by Laurent and Severa. Laurent ends up showing Lucina the Bear Hat by mistake and she, in turn, buys 12 of them. Later on they are used to kill the Risen because "they can only be killed by ugly things".
  • Lucina's amiibo Hero Battle team in Fates is based on some of the other children from Awakening

  • Her "Masked Marth" variation is the only character in the game with no innate passive skills whatsoever.
  • Lucina shares her English voice actress, Laura Bailey, with Palla in her appearance in Fire Emblem Heroes.
  • Lucina was the winner of the 1st Voting Gauntlet (Princes vs. Princesses) in Fire Emblem Heroes.
  • Lucina is shown several times to be heterochromatic, with her left eye being brighter than her right one. Most likely, it's because of the brand than of an actual genetic change, but it was never clarified.
  • Lucina's outfit in her "Here With Me" variant in Heroes is identical to the one she wears in the artwork for the Fire Emblem Awakening Original Soundtrack.
