The Hagakure Blade is a Katana that appears exclusively in Fire Emblem Fates. The strongest Katana appearing in the game, the Hagakure Blade bears high Might and Avoid, making it a deadly weapon in the hands of a capable Swordmaster. It can be considered a stronger version of the Sunrise Katana; the Sunrise Katana does far less damage, but shares the same avoid bonus as the Hagakure Blade. Only Swordmasters and Lodestars may acquire the weapon rank necessary to use it.

The Hagakure Blade's strengths are, however, offset by its inclination to half its wielder's Strength post-battle until they attack again. Like most other Katana, the Hagakure Blade reduces its wielder's Defense and Resistance by 1, but increases their Speed by 1.

Etymology[]

Literally meaning Leaf Concealment, Hagakure is a practical and spiritual guide for samurai warriors that was composed in the late 1700s, drawn from a collection of commentaries by the samurai Yamamoto Tsunetomo, former retainer to Nabeshima Mitsushige, the third ruler of what is now Saga prefecture in Japan. The book itself reflect's Yamamoto's view on bushido and the way a samurai should live and die.

Trivia[]

  • Hagakure Blade can seem like a bit of a misnomer, as it is only ever seen in a pair in the standard game. However, it appears as a single blade when equipped by the DLC class, Lodestar.
    • Originally, S-Rank weapons can only be wielded by certain classes, however, with the addition of DLC Classes, there are some exceptions. With DLC, the Hagakure Blade is the only Hoshidan S-Rank weapon that can be wielded by two classes. Of all S-Rank weapons in Fire Emblem Fates, it is one of three weapons that can be equipped by more than one class, the others being Excalibur, which can be wielded by Sorcerers and Witches, and the Aurgelmir, which can be wielded by Berserkers and Nohrian Kings, though one must hack the game in order to have a Nohrian King wield the Axe in question.
