“The Ylisseans go to the Dragon's Table to retrieve the Fire Emblem, but the ritual to resurrect Grima is already underway. They break through and head for the altar.”
—Opening Narration

Invisible Ties (Fate or Bonds in the Japanese version) is Chapter 23 of Fire Emblem: Awakening. This chapter shares its name with the Premonition of the same name. Both Chrom and the Avatar are required for this chapter.

This chapter occurs in two different halves. In the first half, the map is split into two parts by a wall that cannot be passed through, including the use of the Rescue Staff; the top portion which Chrom and the Avatar fight Validar, like in the Premonition version of this map, and the bottom which all other units brought into the battle fight Grimleal members. Please note that the Mire tome can still hit Validar through the barrier, allowing you to hit him from the other side if you don't want to risk him countering your attacks. After defeating Validar, a short cutscene occurs and then the second half occurs.

In the second half, the wall separating Chrom and the Avatar from the rest of the army will break and Validar will warp away from his original position to where his cult members are. Basilio and Flavia join in in this half.

StrategyEdit

This chapter is much more difficult than the previous one.

This may be the time to look over all of your units. Make sure that all of your units have high defense and resistance as well as their strength/magic based on their weapon. Make sure that Olivia, if you include her, is able to hold out on her own. It is never a good idea to have her die in mid-battle in any difficulty or mode.

Assassins, Manaketes, mounted units, and flyers are usefull in their own ways. Panne and Yarne (depends on the father) are excellent characters to consider as Assassins, but be sure that they have decent stats before changing their classes. If Donnel is on included and is still a villager, he will most likely be defeated, so you may want to consider reclassing him or not using him.

An important thing to note is if you do not defeat Validar, only half of the enemies will move towards your group below the barrier.

Note that even killing Validar does not prevent reinforcements, so do not bother with him (as he is immobile) until you have dealt with everything on the map.

The majority of your army start on the other side of the barrier with 40 enemies to contend with. More enemies will come from the staircases as the chapter progresses. Validar is as strong as he was in the Premonition, so he should go down fairly easily if you can defeat him on Turn 1 if Chrom is a Paladin with Boots.

Flavia and Basilio will join when you defeat Validar the first time. Validar then returns with higher stats, but he is actually the least dangerous thing in this chapter. You want to defeat Validar on Turn 1 or 2, because this frees the upper part of the map, putting less pressure on you. Once you do so, the same cutscene from the premonition will occur as well as a new cutscene that explains your two new recruits, the Khans. Flavia and Basilio are a great help (Basillio can easily defeat the enemy Generals with his Hammer), and Flavia can easily double Heroes with the Balmung (take it from Storage and perhaps a Hammer if you have one).

The rest of your units have to position themselves north and along the edge of the wall towards the barrier and defeat the Sorcerer and Assassin to the north (the Assassin is on a pedestal so has an even higher than normal evade rate), the General, and the Berserker. Use your best combat units on these enemies, you will easily lose a unit or two. The rest of the chapter is dealing with the enemies as they all come at you, you need Rescue staves to get people out of danger, position characters so they can do maximum damage on the enemy phase without dying. Rally skills are extremely useful here, powering up characters with these, using Olivia to Dance and using Pair Up so can overpower the enemies.
