“A device that negates enemy critical attacks.”
—In-game description, The Sacred Stones

The Iron Rune (パビスの守り Pabisu no mamori, lit. Pavise's Protection) is a shield that debuts in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. When placed in the inventory of any given character, the Iron Rune negates all critical attacks that they could otherwise have sustained, making it a very useful for units who possess terrible Luck.

In The Sacred Stones, the Iron Rune is substituted by the Hoplon Guard (ホプロンの守護 Hopuron no shugo, lit. Hoplon's Protection), which is also imbued with the ability to negate critical attacks that its holder could possibly sustain. It is dropped Caellach in Chapter 15 and another one is obtained in the Tower of Valni when you recruit him.

Etymology[]

The 'hoplon' was another type of large shield, which was commonly used by Ancient Greek infantry, or 'hoplites'.

Trivia[]

  • In the description in the Italian version there's a translation error, incorrectly saying that the Iron Rune prevents enemy from attacking.
