“Saving your family but leaving the other civilians to the mercy of Empire? Such selfishness would be shameful to us knights of Razelia. Look, Arkis. She's my sister. I worry about her every day. But we are, first and foremost, knights of Razelia. Right now all we can do is have faith in Lord Runan...”
—Kreiss, in a conversation with Arkis
Kreiss (クライス Kuraisu) is a playable character from TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. He is a knight of Razelia who accompanies Runan. He is the older brother of Rina, as well as the partner of her fiancé, Arkis.
Kreiss is first seen when he accompanies Runan to Wellt at the beginning of the game. Early in the game, he attempts to calm down Arkis when the latter becomes upset out of worry for Rina and begins to doubt Runan's cause. At the banquet after Map 7, he agrees with Arkis's statement that the food that they are eating is good, although he is bothered by the thought that the citizens of Razelia are starving while they are fortunate enough to be fed. If the two of them are sent with Holmes after the first route split, they will meet Leteena in the city of Verge.
Upon first meeting Leteena, he helps her pick up the items that she dropped when she bumped into him and Arkis. Afterwards, he offers to accompany her back to her home, but she refuses to accept it and leaves. However, she drops her brooch, which Kreiss quickly finds. Wishing to return it to her, he asks around the city for the location of her home.
Over the course of Holmes's first story segment, Kreiss visits Verge multiple times to see Leteena and bring her gifts. While she initially thinks that he is acting out of pity for her because she is blind, his actions are driven by his romantic feelings for her. During his second visit, he brings a Healing Drop for Leteena, thinking that it can be used to cure her blindness. After Elette informs him that she and Ezekiel have already tried using it for that purpose without any success, he quickly excuses himself. When he visits for the third time, Leteena still refuses to see or speak to him, so he gives his latest gift of flowers and an Amulet to Elette, asking her to hand them to Leteena. Unbeknownst to him, Leteena appreciates the gift and realizes that she is in love with him.
During his next visit to Verge, he learns from Elette that Leteena has left alone to search for him, which deeply worries him. If he is sent with Runan after the second route split, he can reunite with her in Map 25. In order to do this, he must defeat Marco, who will reveal her whereabouts in his final words. Afterwards, Kreiss must visit the bottom left village, where he will find her and reveal that he discovered her whereabouts from Marco, whom he has regretfully slain. While he initially advises for her to return to Elette, he accepts her decision to stay with him and join Runan's army.
During the third intermission, Leteena draws Kreiss's attention to the nighttime stars, which he had not noticed before and notes to be beautiful. He is also asked to abandon the knighthood for her, as she does not want him to die like Marco did. If he agrees while Ezekiel is not present, he will leave with her. If he refuses, she will leave alone. However, if he agrees while Ezekiel is present, both he and Leteena will be convinced by her brother to stay.
In contrast to Arkis, Kreiss is an honorable and just knight who is calm in most situations. He values his loyalty to Razelia over his loved ones, although he can be convinced to abandon his knighthood for Leteena. While he is deeply concerned about Rina, he considers her safety to be second to his loyalty to Runan. He believes that he and Arkis should not enjoy eating good food because there are people in Razelia who are probably starving. He is also affectionate towards Leteena, often visiting her and presenting her with gifts.

|Item Required||Promoted Class|
|Knight Proof||Commando Knight|
Kreiss first joins as an average unit whose performance is about equal to Arkis. He specializes in strength and skill, so he will be able to land powerful hits while having a low chance to double-attack or dodge. Like Arkis, he is outclassed by many of the other horseback units in the game, several of which join only a few chapters later. His promotion to Commando Knight is quite average in comparison to Gold Knight, Paladin, and Black Knight, which further increases his issues with being outclassed and competition for a Knight Proof. When he is trained to a high level, he will still be a rather average fighter due to his low agility. However, if the player is seeking to activate the Leteena Event, it is recommended to use him.
