“No, I would never have survived without him. After my father was killed, our mansion was taken away, and for two years I was unable to even go outdoors freely. The cruel surrogate would constantly threaten me to tell him where the prince was. The thought of that abuse still sends shivers down my spine... But then...Dean rescued me from that nightmare. He protected me from assassins from the Empire, and always cheered me up when I was about to break down. He always laughed it off, but I was sure he was a well-known mercenary. I never knew he was working under Lord Areone...”
—Linoan referring to Dean in a conversation with Eda

Linoan (リノアン Rinoan) is a playable character from Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. She is the duchess of Tahra who is around fifteen years old. After the Grannvale Empire invaded Tahra in search of Leif, she was captured and forced to stay indoors for two years while being constantly interrogated about Leif's whereabouts. Eventually, she was rescued by Dean, who also protected her from many assassination attempts. Despite being Areone's fiancée, she ends up falling in love with Dean.

Some time before the game's events, Linoan starts a rebellion against the Empire to stop the child hunts. This resulted in Tahra falling under siege by the Empire, and after all of the mercenaries that she hired had fled out of fear, she sent Safy to ask Leif for help. A while after he meets Safy, Leif arrives in Tahra and aids Linoan, but however, he is unable to protect Tahra from the Empire, and they are forced to flee. Before leaving, she has a meeting with Areone and agrees to hand over Tahra to Thracia. Later, in Chapter 21, she can visit a church, in which she will meet a priest who reveals to her that she is a carrier of Heim blood. This triggers her promotion to Sage.

In the ending, Linoan returns to Tahra to rebuild it. Despite her beauty, she never marries.

Overview

Surprisingly, Linoan is actually the first Anima Magic user to automatically join the party. Asvel, Olwen, Salem, and Homer are all useful mages, but all of them are locked behind fairly arcane recruitment methods. To many players electing to play the game blindly, Linoan will immediately gain an extremely strong niche as the party's only spellcaster, though this is hampered by her extremely disappointing Fire, Thunder and Wind ranks. She has solid growths that can be greatly augmented through the use of Crusader Scrolls thanks to her low starting level, a perfect PC of 5, and access to Thracia 776's notoriously useful Staves. She will almost certainly see use, especially if the player did not recruit any of the other mages.

Linoan is similar to Julia of Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War in that they both can use the Resire tome, which means they can do battle with most enemies and still come out alive. This of course requires her to have the tome in the first place. It can (and should) be obtained from the bottom-right village in Chapter 14 if the player wishes to use her. It would be to the player's advantage to keep her by Dean's side since Linoan gets a support boost from him, and vice versa. Also, Linoan comes with a C in Staves, so after promotion she will have a B in Staves, meaning it will not be hard for her to get to an A and have her use the Warp and Rewarp Staves. Remember to get her to the Church in Chapter 21 to promote her (but be sure nobody else does beforehand).

Ending

Linoan - The Lone Flower of Tahra (ターラに咲く花 Tāra ni saku hana)

Linoan returned to Tahra and dedicated her life to rebuilding her trampled hometown. Tahra eventually found prosperity greater than ever before, and also served to aid Leif in his development of the New Kingdom of Thracia. Linoan never married despite her beauty.
