“Oh, right. I'm Lionel of the Royal Guard. Codha had me slated for execution, but one of the prison guards helped me out. My compatriots and I haven't taken too kindly to Codha's tyranny, so we've been waiting for the right time to strike. And since you made such a huge commotion outside, the palace's defenses were in disarray, giving us the perfect opportunity.”
—Lionel, introducing himself to Runan
Lionel (ライネル Raineru) is a playable character from TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. He is a knight of Wellt and a close friend of Norton. He opposes Codha's scheme to seize control of Wellt and intends to rise up against him.
Lionel is introduced when he openly defies Codha and embarrasses Ellis in front of him. As a result of his actions, he is imprisoned for execution, but Norton later frees him. He makes a failed attempt to convince Norton to aid him in his planned uprising against Codha. When Runan's army attacks the soldiers outside of Wellt Castle, Lionel and his compatriots take advantage of the situation to defeat the guards within the castle and capture Codha. Once Runan seizes the castle, Lionel hands Codha over to him and Merlon.
In the ending, Lionel invites Norton to visit his wife, but forbids Holmes from seeing her due to his lack of manners.

Unless the player really wants to recruit Leteena or did not choose Narron before Map 2, Lionel is probably the best choice out of the four in Map 12. As one of the few characters who can use spears indoors, he can come in handy, particularly in the final chapter. He also has two useful skills, Life or Death and Awareness, the latter of which is a valuable in the latest chapters. His growths are decent and quite well-balanced, and though his Agility growth is not the best, his high base mitigates this somewhat. Overall, Lionel will make a solid addition to the player's team.
Lionel is a masculine given name and a diminutive form of Léon, which is the French variant of Leon, meaning "lion". In Arthurian mythology, Lionel was a knight of the Round Table.
