Lotz is a young attendant of Tibarn's, who was charged with the care of Leanne while Tibarn was on a journey. He is somewhat clumsy in his work and has trouble communicating with his charge due to his limited understanding of the ancient heron tongue. He tries to make Leanne understand him by speaking louder, as though she were hard of hearing. Lotz is killed by the Black Knight when he comes to kidnap Leanne. Tibarn is quite fond of Lotz, and is very grieved at his death.
Though Lotz is thought to die, it is possible that after receiving his greivous wound, he merely fainted. therefore, it is possible, but highly unlikely, to survive. Because of his tragic end, most people prefer to think of him as alive. Many fans hoped that Lotz would be playable in the sequel, thus proving his survival and getting a new hawk, but he was not.
