“You knew... so why did you ignore me all the time... I once heard from mother that father has been killed in the war. Even though I was immature at that time, I still kept the image of my father alive in my heart, treasuring it every moment. So when we met in the underground temple I knew you were my father right away. I was very happy and couldn’t stop my tears. But father wouldn’t share a single word with me... why... why did you do that, father?”
—Mel, in a conversation with Alfred
Mel (メル Meru) is a playable character from TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. She is a granddaughter of Eisenbaha, the daughter of Alfred and Sylpheeze, the older sister of Maruju, a cousin of Sennet and Neyfa, and the niece of Serene. She was once a cleric of the Temple of Mars, but left so that she could be with Roger, who is now her fiancé.
It is worth noting that like Quan and Ethlyn from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Mel dying will cause Roger to leave and vice versa. They also cannot be separated during the route splits. If they are assigned to different teams, the one who was assigned to Holmes will be reassigned to travel with Runan.
Mel is first seen when she attempts to stop Roger from fighting for Codha's cause. In Map 4, she and Roger appear as enemy units during their attempt to stop Runan's army from marching across Wellt. However, they ultimately fail, and she is taken as a hostage by Codha to secure Roger's loyalty to him. She will be rescued by Narsus if Runan visited the building in which he resided during Map 3. In their first meeting, Narsus asks her if she is single, and she responds by hitting him.
During Map 6, Mel is left on the battlefield by Narsus, who gives her the ☆Pegasus Flute and tells her to give it to Sasha. If she speaks to Sasha during the chapter, she will do what Narsus asked of her and give the flute to her, saying that Queen Liza wished for her to have it. She can also talk to Maruju, who reveals that their family is not angered by her choice to pursue a relationship with Roger.
If Mel and Roger are sent with Runan after the first route split, they will have a conversation at the banquet at the end of Map 10. In this scene, Roger points out that she seems to be enjoying the party and willingly dances with the other men, and she responds by saying that she cannot refuse without a reason. If they are sent with Holmes instead, they can visit the Temple of Mars to meet with Sylpheeze, who openly expresses her support of their relationship. Sylpheeze also gifts Mel with the ☆Magic Staff to celebrate her happiness with Roger and tells her to use it to protect him. During the third intermission, she first meets Raquel, who immediately excuses herself upon seeing her.
In the ending, Mel reunites with Alfred and asks for his reasons for ignoring her on the battlefield. She also first meets Alicia, who reveals her history as Alfred's adopted daughter. In their final scene, she and Roger agree to invite Runan and Holmes to their eventual marriage. During this conversation, Mel compares the relationships that Runan and Holmes have with Enteh and Katri respectively to her own with Roger.
Automatically from the start of Turn 2 of Map 6. However, Runan must have visited the bottom right village (the one where Narsus appears for the first time) in Map 3 and she and Roger must also have been left alive in Map 4.
Re-Move (Lv 14)
Mel is the only Troubadour in the game and possesses high movement that makes her quite useful. She can use swords, which makes her one of the only two healers who are capable of defending themselves (the other being Lee). However, Mel's low strength and skill mean that she will never be a particularly useful combat unit. She has the highest durability out of all of the healers, making her the best one to place on the front lines with the combat units. Despite this, she will need some protection, although she can greatly benefit Roger with their shared support bonuses. She is also the only healer who has a movement growth and therefore can become even more mobile. She obtains the unique ☆Magic Staff, which can be useful in both raising the power of the player's mages and helping the durability of fighters.
