“I, as a Canaan knight, have lived upholding my honor. But that's something of the past now. Listen, Mr. Prince. Won't you hire me as a mercenary?”
—Mintz, to Runan
Mintz (ミンツ Mintsu) is a playable character from TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. He is a member of the Arless Black Knights led by Silva. He is implied to be a friend of Ernst, who provides an opportunity for him to leave the army in Map 10.
Mintz is first seen when he enters Pavlov's private quarters and witnesses him torturing Rennie with a whip for information. He is also ordered to throw Rennie into the dungeon because she refuses to reveal the location of Lionheart's secret base. Mintz decides to stay in the dungeon with her to look after her. Once Rennie wakes up, she realizes that she has been sleeping on his lap and reacts with shock. Mintz clarifies that he was simply looking out for her and does not intend to hurt her.
During Map 10, Mintz becomes worried about Rennie and travels around the battlefield until he arrives at the castle where Rennie is set to be burned at the stake. Upon seeing this, he challenges Pavlov and gives Rennie an opportunity to escape. If he joins Runan at the end of the chapter and Rennie does not, he can reunite with her during Map 17. He also has a former lover named Martha, whom he can visit during Map 18 to take back a Move Again Book that he once gave to her. In Map 35, Mintz can recruit his accomplice, Hagaru, by informing him about the many beautiful women in Runan's army.
In the ending, Mintz becomes the second-in-command to the Arless Black Knights as Silva wishes. He will be accompanied by Rennie if she does not fall in love with Barts.
- Mintz can be recruited in Map 10 if he reaches the castle before turn 9 or your army reaches the castle in turn 9.
- If your army reaches the castle before turn 4, he then can be recruited in Map 17.
- Note that if the castle is reached by your army in turn 4 - 8, he will be unrecruitable.
Mintz is an example of a prepromote that is good when he joins, and stays good for the majority of the game. Combination of good movement, good bases, nice skills and average growths makes Mintz a good filler unit. He will never be your best unit, but will not really lag behind until the endgame.
