“I jumped off the ship before it set sail. I’m a peaceful guy who doesn’t like fighting, you know? No way I’m risking my life against the Isla pirates. Besides, I was tired of the boss overworking us, so I thought it’d be a good time to bail out of piracy. ...Wait! Maybe you’d be so kind as to hire me? I’m not a fighter, but I’m the best in Granada when it comes to picking locks or disguising myself.”
—Narsus, in a conversation with Runan

Narsus (ナルサス Narusasu, translated Narcissus or Narcus in fan translations) is a playable character from TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. As his name suggests, he is a somewhat narcissistic person, as well as extremely lazy. He is a former member of the Sealion Pirates and appears to be terrified of Holmes. He is shown to be a master of disguise and infiltration, and uses these skills to rescue Mel from Codha. He receives particularly harsh treatment from Eugen.

While he is initially recruited in Map 9, Narsus leaves at the end of the chapter with half of Runan's funds. Later, in Map 23, he rescues his friend, Bud, from Ahab and helps her stop Rishel from fighting against Holmes. He is recruited to Runan's army permanently in Map 25. During the third intermission, Narsus disguises as Meriah to make a love confession to Maruju as a prank for his own amusement.

In GameEdit

He first appears as an NPC unit in Map 9. To recruit him, have Runan speak to him. However, during Map 3, you must have made Runan visit the bottom right village (where he first makes an appearance). Once the battle ends, he leaves your party. He later appears as an NPC unit in Map 25. To recruit him, have Runan speak to him again. However, you must have recruited him in Map 9.

While Narsus has functioning growths, he should not be judged entirely by them, mostly because of his skill, Transform. He is basically as good as whichever unit that he transforms into. Narsus is not a particularly good combat unit and cannot steal items, but he still has other forms of thief utility such as picking locks.

  • During the early stages of TearRing Saga, Shouzou Kaga implied in an interview that Xane would be appearing in Emblem Saga, the original title for what would become TearRing Saga. Due to the two having similar personalities and abilities, it is believed that Narsus was created from the original intent to use Xane in the game.
