“Hear me, O ruler of ancient Altea and true lord of the Seven Realms... I summon thee, Marth, the Hero-King! Come forth and grant us your protection!”
—Old Hubba calling the Marth card for aiding Chrom in Xenologue 1.

Old Hubba (占い爺 Old Fortune-Teller in the Japanese version, Laidus in the Italian version, Rasputamus in the other Non-English European versions and Vieux Baba in french version) is a non-playable character in Fire Emblem Awakening. He is an elderly fortune-teller who lives in the Outrealms, and the keeper of the Einherjar cards. He only appears in the Xenologue chapters and the Hubba Tester.

ProfileEdit

Old Hubba is an old sage whose job is to safeguard a family treasure, the Einherjar cards. Unfortunately he was seduced by an Outrealm Aversa, leading to the theft of the cards. Luckily for him, Chrom and his army arrives in the Outrealm and he seeks their help in defeating the Einherjar so he can reseal them back into their cards. He has the power to summon the Einherjar himself to aid Chrom in some battles.

Old Hubba is slightly perverted and often ogles at most of the female Einherjar and was enticed by Aversa, leading to the theft of his cards. After each Xenologue, Old Hubba will give the Avatar one of his Einherjar cards as thanks for recovering the rest of the cards.

It should be noted that his somewhat perverse personality is from the localization and he was a fairly normal fortune teller in the Japanese version.

EtymologyEdit

Rasputamus is likely derived from Grigori Rasputin, a Russian mystic known for his many sexual relations misdeeds amongst his followers.

TriviaEdit

  • Old Hubba's visual appearance and role is based on the Augury NPC from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. His unused roster entry (see below) implies that the two are actually the same character.
  • Old Hubba shares some of his dialogue voice clips with the generic aged male villager.
  • Old Hubba has an unused entry in the roster. It reads as follows:
An old man who just sort of showed up. Mostly useless, though he can assess relationships. Oh, and he's a few millennia old or something. The one with the wildest love life. Born on February 29th.
