“…You want us to huddle behind those gaps in the walls and take potshots at the invaders?! Y-You're asking us to die…!”
—Oltof to Kempf

Oltof is a a boss character in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776; he is an officer of Kempf. As Leif's forces charge through Friege, Kempf orders Oltof to try a strategy involving ballistae in which his men would attempt to shoot at Leif's army by firing arrows through "murder holes" built into the walls. Oltof has serious doubts about this action and likens it to Kempf asking his men to die, as it was highly unlikely that such a strategy would be effective in stopping the invaders. He is either killed by Leif's army or released, gaining a newfound respect for House Leonster in the process.

Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.

Oltof has poor stats and is actually powerless up close, but has deadly siege magic that can catch the player off guard. It might serve players well to do a few practice runs of the chapter before seriously challenging it, just to get a feel for Oltof's attacking range. Due to his attacking range, Oltof can provide a serious threat to the children escaping after they are released from their cell. However, this can be mitigated by getting units to carry the escaping children to the exit point.

Whatever the case, Oltof stands a decent chance of landing critical blows on units with low Luck stats. A critical hit from either of his tomes will typically spell disaster. Lifis, who will likely be attending this chapter to help scout out the map, is particularly vulnerable to such a catastrophe. As an added precaution, the player should recall that Crusader Scrolls protect units from critical hits, and equip low-luck units appropriately.

If the player has no intention of clearing the chapter quickly, they can use Leif to absorb hits from Oltof's siege magic, as this will help keep other units from building up fatigue.
