FE13 Chapter 9

Plegia Castle Courtyard as it appears during Chapter 9.

Plegia Castle Courtyard is a location from Fire Emblem Awakening. Appearing in Chapter 9, it is located in the shadow of Plegia Castle proper. Emmeryn was sent to be executed here during that chapter. Following a failed attempt to rescue her, Chrom and the Shepherds must fight the Plegian general Campari.

In the center of Plegia Castle Courtyard rests the massive skull of Grima. The courtyard itself is surrounded by walls, and those walls are surrounded by deep sand, boulders, and sparse shrubs. The stone cliffs that house Plegia Castle rise above this section of desert. In the distance, there are mountains.

The site appears to have been worn by time or weather, with crumbling walls and sand-swept paths. Despite this, Plegia Castle Courtyard is still used for the king's addresses to his people and for events such as public executions. There is a stone platform next to Grima's skull where a speaker can stand above a crowd, and a long protrusion above that platform, potentially Grima's horn, rib, or another bone, where the condemned are made to stand before death.

It is here that Libra and Tharja join the Shepherds, upon Chrom's request.

Story[]

The Shepherds' long battle to rescue the captured Emmeryn ends in the Plegia Castle Courtyard. With the help of Feroxi intelligence and physical prowess, Chrom and his allies arrive just in time to stop Emmeryn from dying by the executioner's axe. Unfazed, Gangrel states that he has been expecting Chrom and orders the death of all the Shepherds. He and Aversa will retreat before the battle begins, leaving Campari in charge of carrying out his orders.

The Shepherds are not the only ones who tried to rescue Emmeryn. Libra states that he lost all of his War Monk comrades fighting to get to this point. Despite Gangrel's bravado, not everyone in Plegia is enthused about the Exalt's death either. Tharja implies that the Plegians in the courtyard were forced to be there by the king's orders. Both Libra and Tharja can join the Shepherds if Chrom speaks to them, though it should be noted that Chrom is the only one who can recruit them and they can die if he does not do so soon enough, potentially at each other's hand.

As the Shepherds advance, Campari will complain about the absence of the wyvern brigade meant to reinforce the Plegian troops. Reinforcements will arrive shortly after, apparently arriving from Plegia Castle. Nevertheless, the Shepherds defeat them, and Chrom gives the signal for Phila to rescue Emmeryn.

Aversa summons Archer Risen who shoot Phila and the other pegasus knights out of the sky with only a single arrow each. Gangrel then offers Chrom a trade: the Fire Emblem for Emmeryn's life. At this point, Chrom may choose to sacrifice Emmeryn. Regardless of his choice, Emmeryn interrupts their conversation. Though Chrom resolutely decides that the people need their Exalt just as he needs his sister, Emmeryn takes the choice from him by falling to her death, sacrificing herself to allow the Shepherds to escape with the Fire Emblem. Before she falls, she warns the people of Plegia that war will only bring pain, and urges them to do what they must to end the cycle of vengeance.

As Gangrel mocks her suicide, Basilio and Flavia arrive to rescue the Shepherds. Though Chrom screams for vengeance and wants his sister's body, the Feroxi Khans and Robin drag him away. It is unknown what happens to Emmeryn's body, though Gangrel makes a comment about gathering up her body and putting her on display.

"End of spoilers. It's a pleasure doing business with you!"
