“Yes. It happened 11 years ago, in Arsos village. I, with my father, was in a village nearby, curing sick villagers. Attrom was five years old, I think, but had been left alone in the inn. According to the inn’s owner, a dancer-looking girl had brought and left him here. Attrom was gravely ill, and he was trembling because of a high fever. Father left Arsos village, saying that there were many sick people waiting, but I couldn’t bear leaving him and stayed in the village. I cared for him for a month and eventually he got better. I brought him back to Blood's church, but Attrom did not remember anything regarding the time before he fell ill. After that, for about 11 years, Attrom and I lived together as brother and sister.”
—Renee, revealing her backstory with Attrom to Holmes

Renee (レネ Rene) is a playable character from TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. She is the priestess of the Church of Blood and the daughter of Andre. She is the cousin of Holmes, Sasha, Rishel, Meriah, Verna, Mahter, and Frau and the niece of Clarice, Liza, and Rose. She is one of the granddaughters of Octavas. She is also the only character who is capable of using the ☆Warp Staff.

Profile

Known for her incredible magical powers, Renee is highly respected by the citizens of Blood, who view her as a goddess. She was originally supposed to become a mage, but did not go through with it because she could not bear to hurt another person. Eleven years prior to the game's events, she found an ill five-year-old Attrom and spent one month nursing him back to health. Afterwards, she brought him to her church and took him in as her younger brother.

Some time after Meriah left Blood to search for the missing Rishel, Renee became worried and began looking for her. During her search, she was captured by Maerhen and the Isla Pirates. During a battle against Holmes, she is used as a hostage by Maerhen. After Krisheenu steps up to protect her, Renee is pushed overboard by the Isla Pirates. While she is believed to have died, she is found alive and unconscious by Bismark, who is one of Shion's subordinates. When Holmes arrives in Granada to liberate it, Renee agrees to assist Shion and the army of Canaan. During the battle, Renee reunites with Attrom, who has been searching for her since she was captured by Maerhen. Later in the game, she reunites with Lionheart and becomes his lover after he confesses his romantic feelings for her.

In the epilogue, Renee returns to Salia with Lionheart.

Personality

Renee is a selfless and kindhearted woman who never appears to show any kind of dislike towards others, as seen by her passivity towards her status as Maerhen's captive. It is mentioned that she has always looked after Attrom, which is a part of the reason as to why he is so upset by his failures to rescue her from the Isla Pirates. She is also very humble and claims that all of her magical powers come solely from her staves.

Overall

Renee has very good stats for a healer, with her magic, weapon level, and agility all being quite excellent. She will be a very effective healer, especially due to her superior movement compared to others in similar classes. Her Frontier Fighter skill increases her movement to six on maps with that type of terrain, which causes her to be more mobile than every other healer except Mel. The ☆Warp Staff gives Renee immense utility, allowing the player to clear chapters very quickly, and the ☆Anti-Evil Staff destroys a number of monsters equal to Renee's current magic stat. While it is wasteful to abuse these staves because of the reduced experience for the other characters, they can make some levels much easier and greatly help when playable units are in mortal danger.

Trivia

  • Unused dialogue reveals that in earlier drafts of the script, Renee was named Resfinne (レスフィーヌ Resfinne).
