“Damn, this is more than I bargained for. All right then, let's get this over with...”
—Rumei talking to Gomes

Rumei is a boss character encountered in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He is a Dragon Knight of Thracia who is hired by Gomes and the Mount Violdrake Bandits. He is fighting to feed his three children (Elaine, Mahal, and Min) and if captured by Leif he promises to support his children with a real job from now on.

Personality[]

Rumei is a family man forced to do evil by the harsh state of the Thracian peninsula. He admits that raiding villages is a morally abhorrent thing, but reasons with himself that it's a necessary evil to support his family. A former Thracian Dracoknight, he holds his honor in high regard and refuses to beg for mercy, but can be persuaded to accept it by Leif after he reminds him of his family.

Ultimately, Rumei is a once honest father pushed to committing evil acts to support the ones he loves.

Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.

Rumei's stats are profoundly poor for a boss, but this is balanced by the fact that the player is expected to capture him. Though his Defense is poor, the building on which he stands gives him the standard +10 defense that many of Thracia 776's bosses enjoy. This makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to capture him with iron weapons alone. On Turn 15, Rumei will mount his dragon, and it will no longer be possible for the player to capture him.

If Lifis has enough Build (and somehow hasn't run out of Stamina by this point), he can steal Rumei's Iron Sword, allowing the player to capture him without a fight. Otherwise, Finn's Brave Lance is a solid fallback. Once Rumei is captured, the player should remember to loot all of his valuables.

Whatever method the player chooses, they should not release Rumei. Thracia 776 treats enemies that the player released the same way it treats ones that the player killed. Chapter 8x can only be accessed if Rumei has been captured by the player, but not released.

Quotes[]

“Sorry for your luck, but I need the coin. I got no illusions--I know this is wrong.”
—Rumei's battle quote
“Elaine... Mahal... Min... I'm sorry... P-Papa isn't comin' home...”
—Rumei's death quote
“Whether I like it or not, you've extended me a mercy-one I didn't offer you. As for this whole banditry business... I think the one time was enough. I'll find some other way to support my kids-somethin' honest.”
