Themis is a location from Fire Emblem Awakening. Found on the continent of Ylisse, it is also part of the Halidom of Ylisse. As a dukedom, it is one of the most powerful domains in the nation and is home to one of the most influential noble houses.

Profile[]

The territory of Themis is led by a duke, whose family is one of the old high houses of Ylisse. They are one of the richest families in the country. While the Duke of Themis is recognized by both Plegian and Ylissean nobility as a powerful man, even his daughter admits that the common folk would have little reason to know who he is. Said daughter is Maribelle, known for her haughty attitude and high expectations. Raised with complete separation from the "unwashed masses" of Themis, her strict adherence to the noble standard ostracized her from almost every other Ylissean, even her peers, with the sole exception of Lissa. There is no shortage of rumors surrounding the duke and his family, with one accusation of embezzlement almost causing the duke's death by the executioner's axe. Other nobles largely dislike the family and have made repeated threats on Maribelle's life.

The nobility of Themis pride themselves on being fashionable and wearing silks. Hunting, chess, violin recitals, and tea parties are frequent pastimes among the upper class. Tea is traditionally had at multiple set times a day, including first thing in the morning. It is also had during social calls at all hours and used as a gift. Citrus teas are a delicacy and elderberry tea is also held in high esteem, while rose tea is a more common beverage. Like most of Ylisse, the people in Themis worship the Divine Dragon Naga.

Geography[]

Not much is known about the geography of Themis, as it is never visited during the game. During Chapter 5 of Awakening and Maribelle's support with Chrom, it is implied that Themis shares a border with Plegia. Furthermore, it is said that Themis is far more provincial than Ylisstol, which corroborates with it being a border territory. Based on this conjecture, Themis's western edge is likely formed by the mountain range that splits Plegia from Ylisse. Revealed in the Summer Scramble is the fact that the weather here is temperate and rarely gets very hot. It is also notably shaded, further evidence that Themis rests at the base of a mountain range with an easterly aspect.

The center of power in Themis is the duke's expansive manor. Politically, Themis is a patriarchy passed from father to son or son-in-law, as revealed in Maribelle's support with Virion. The Duke of Themis vows fealty to the royal family of Ylisse and is thus subject to the laws and judgements of the Ylissean royal magistrate.

Notable people from Themis[]

  • Maribelle - A proud and sharp-tongued noble from one of Ylisse's most well-to-do houses. Lissa's best friend.
  • Brady - Maribelle's future son. While he looks terrifying, he is more likely to burst into tears than bust out a weapon.
    • Brady may or may not be from Themis, depending on who his father is.

Etymology[]

Themis is a Titaness from Greek mythology and the personification of law; likewise, Maribelle wishes to become a magistrate.
