The Virtual Console is an online service for WiiWii U, and Nintendo 3DS systems that allows players to download and play games that were originally released on older consoles, such as Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, etc.

Across all regions, five games in the Fire Emblem series have been released for Wii Virtual Console, nine for Wii U Virtual Console, and three for Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console.

Nintendo offered early adopters of the Nintendo 3DS twenty free exclusive Virtual Console games as part of an "Ambassador Program," ahead of a dramatic early price drop for their struggling console. Ten of these turned out to be Game Boy Advance titles, and one of these was Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Game Boy Advance games have yet to be made available for sale on the 3DS eShop, so only Ambassadors can access this game.
