“I would have endured it if I was the only one who had to suffer. But my young siblings went through the same torture because of me. After hearing their screams, I couldn't take it any more... I begged forgiveness and became a dark knight of Gerxel to save them. Laugh at me all you want... My loyalty, my pride as a knight... I lost it all on that fateful day...”
—Zeek, in a conversation with Kate

Zeek (ジーク Jīku, alternatively translated as Zieg or Sieg in fan translations) is a playable character from TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. He is a dark knight of the Zoa Empire who accompanies Gwenchaos during his assault on the Temple of Mars. During the resulting battle, he defects to Runan's army, claiming to be a knight of the destroyed Kingdom of Barge.

If he is defeated during the time that he is playable, he will be saved by Karla.

Zeek is the younger brother of Karla and the uncle of her son, Shigen. He was born into a family of nobles descended from the ancient Zoans. When he was only four years old, he and his family were sent into slavery by Reeve's people and forced to confess that they were servants of Gerxel. While his parents and three eldest sisters were publicly burned at the stake and Karla was saved by Gwenchaos on the day of her execution, he remained in slavery for a total of twenty-five years. During his time as a slave, Zeek was brutally tortured and received scars as a result, but managed to survive through his anger towards Reeve and prayers to Gerxel. Three years before the story begins, he was freed and joined the reborn Zoa Empire as a dark knight.

In his first conversation with Kate, Zeek reveals his scarred back and professes that he was sent into slavery by the Zoa Empire, where he eventually became a dark knight to protect his family. Despite his attempts to remain distant from Kate, he allows her to stay by his side at her insistence. Over time, the two of them fall in love with each other, which causes him to become distracted from his mission of spying on Enteh.

Eventually, Zeek betrays Runan and returns to the Zoa Empire with Karla. He is torn between his loyalty to the Gerxel Church and his love for Kate, as he has not actually come to terms with either. Later in the game, Zeek leads an army of dark knights into a battle against Holmes and ends up being captured by him. Before Holmes can punish him for his betrayal, Zeek escapes, either with Karla's or Kate's help depending on which army that the latter is in. Regardless of which army that Kate is in, the two of them will eventually reunite. When they meet again, he asks her to join him in the Zoa Empire, which confuses her since she is unaware that he betrayed her allies. Before he can reveal the truth about himself, Nefka approaches them and tells her that Zeek has always been loyal to Gerxel. Afterwards, Nefka kidnaps Kate and forces Zeek to accept it, telling him that it would be a traitorous act to oppose it.

Towards the end of the story, Zeek is ordered by Karla to stop Runan from interrupting the resurrection ritual of Gerxel. He ultimately dies in this battle. If he is defeated by Kate, he asks her to forgive him as he dies.

Zeek is deeply loyal to the Zoa Empire and follows the teachings of Gerxel. Unlike many of the other members of the Gerxel Church, he believes that the Zoans and the descendants of the settlers could co-exist peacefully in the persecution would stop. Despite this, he hates Reeve and desires to kill everyone from that country. He always follows the commands of his sister and other members of the church with higher positions. He strongly opposes Nefka's view that the ordinary dark knights are slaves to the church and thinks that him having such a mindset makes him similar to their enemies.

While Zeek in Runan's army, he is distant from everyone except for Kate. He is widely suspected to be a traitor, as Raffin does not recognize him from Barge and others find his claims to be doubtful. Zeek actively avoids the army's gatherings and rarely interacts with anyone except for Kate. After defecting back to the Empire, he does not have any hesitation to fight against Runan and Holmes.

He first appears as an enemy unit in Map 5 (wearing a helmet that hides his face). To recruit him, have Runan speak to him or allow him to speak to Runan. However, he later leaves the player's army before Map 24, and will appear again as a non-recruitable enemy unit in Map 31 and the boss of Map 39.

Zeek is a very powerful unit, combining high movement, some of the best growths in the game, and a class that makes him immune to the backfiring effect of the Devil Spear. He also possesses a large collection of powerful skills and support bonuses with Kate that are highly useful for her, although they only slightly benefit him. Since he is stronger than most of the other units at base level, he can be used as a crutch in the earlier stages of the game. However, he is not available for much of the game and appears as an enemy boss later that the player must kill, so it is recommended not to rely too heavily on Zeek.

Battle QuotesEdit
